I thought boomers are called boomers because their parents came back from WWII and had them.

I would think GenX would mostly be the grandchildren of the WWII generation. I was. My grandfather was born in 1920 and was in WWII. My dad was born in 1949.

Yeah, I was born in 1961 and was near the end of the boomers. My granddad fought in WWII. It's definitely a "both" thing depending on the age of the WWII vet.

Cool. I didn't really do the math. I was thinking of boomers mostly being born in the forties and fifties.

I agree with that. Every single one of my great uncles along with my grandfathers served in WWII.

You’re using a made up term in xennial for one thing.

It’s not really made up, the term Gen-X didn’t really come about until the 1990’s so a lot of what you think of as “Gen-X” has been a mix of late Gen-X and early millennials this whole time, so there’s been a recent thought to name this group Xillenials.

A lot of the “boomers” that kids complain about were born in the 1960’s and represent early Gen-X. They still fit the Gen-X mold as they were “latchkey” kids growing up, but they made it well into their career before computers, cell phones, and the internet became indispensable at all layers of society.

Similarly early millennials share a key characteristic of late Gen-X, hence the thought of a micro generation. That is, it’s this narrow gap can’t imagine going to school with the internet, and can’t imagine working without it.

Gen x is just a term that the textile companies made up to sell flannel

If you grew up in the 80s you’re like 60 now which means you’re a boomer

Good times create soft men. Hard times create hard men. In general, that pretty much explains the differences between the modern generations. When there isn't a whole lot to be sad about, people start manufacturing stuff to complain about.

It's one thing to be dumb, but a whole other thing to advertise it on a message board.

I graduated HS in 1988. I'm 52.

It pains me to admit this, but those born between the late 70’s and mid 80’s are typically superior to everyone else in every way.

We have some unfair advantages. Our parents are rich boomers, we're old enough to grow up on analog while still being young enough to appreciate the ipod and everything after. We graduated into recessions and had to learn a lot of different professional skills.

Baw we've only been able to vote for the last 30 years at most. More likely that 1996 was the first presidential election Gen Xers could even vote in.

There's a difference between growing up with the internet and growing UP with the internet (as it was created).

Childhood more resembled older generation. Life after 16 more resembled current generation. Thats why we can relate to both sides. Xennials is a stupid name tho.

It's true, and it's because we are the last generation that had parents who were allowed and ok with beating the shite out of us when we fricked up.

i have been saying this inthe generation threads for years. the true millennial (one that "came of age" around the millennium) knows the old world before the internet and can navigate the internet age. The only reason people born in 1990+ are considered in the millennial generation, is because the retard scholars cant adapt and insist generations have to occur in 20 year intervals. That was fine and dandy when technological advancement was around the same pace, but once the internet came about technology advanced at a logarithmic rate. Which means someone born in 1982 had a completely different child hood as someone born in 1992. where as someone born in 1962 or 1972, there isnt much different between those or even 1982.

It is hilarious when GenXers get out of their moms basement, just to yell that Millennials live in their moms basement. GenXers lived a very similar childhood to the early millennials.

A lot of you non-xennials are bad at math. Jesus Christ. Is it because you didn’t have a phone app to do it for you?!?

There has been discussion of “the Oregon Trail” micro generation, later described as Xenials, for damned near the last decade. Not sure how this is news to anyone. The turn of phrase “analog childhood, digital adulthood” has been repeated endlessly
