Minneapolis/St. Paul

I've always wanted to visit. It sounds like a really cool place.

It's a beautiful city, very clean.

I can't handle November through April though. Brutality is best defined in Minneapolis during December, January, February.

For young people, DC, NYC, Chicago, Boston (Cambridge, to be more specific), Denver, Minneapolis (not St. Paul), San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Austin are all great cities for recent graduates/young adults to live in.

For me personally, I would like to consider the following towns/cities to live in when I grow older: Madison, Denver, Austin, La Jolla (CA), Newton (MA), Burlington (VT),

I've never been a big fan of St. Paul (though the area around St. Thomas and Macalester is nice), but Minneapolis is a terrific city.

Uptown is great. The way the city has revitalized the Warehouse District/North Loop is pretty awesome as well.

Quite eclectic list.

The actual city of Los Angeles is a terrifying concrete hellhole.

Have you ever actually been there? What city isn't full of concrete? Or did you just stay downtown and never leave?

I think Raleigh, NC is a very underrated place to live and raise a family.

I couldn't deal with a cold winter without snowboarding. It is the only thing that makes -15 feel worth it

I could probably live and work in Asheville, NC.

Is that big enough to qualify for this list?

Also, the rate of pay in the DC market does not relate well with the high cost of living. The avg 1 bedroom 1 bathroom down down is approx $1500/mo.

Hell, that is cheap.

Average cost of a 650 sq foot 1 bed and 1 bath is $2000 in Brickell (downtown Miami area where everyone works).

That cost goes to $3000/month for a 900 sq foot one bedroom with a bay view like Tequesta, The Epic, Icon, Asia, Brickell Key, etc.

Living up north in a city like Minneapolis can have it's positive side during the winters. Hockey is a huge youth sport up there and the Cities are full of tournaments, high school games, UofM gophers, Minnesota Wild. There is the Winter Carnival. There are a ton of lakes so ice fishing is big (and a ton of fun). Snowmobiling, there are so many trails you can sled from North Dakota all the way across the northern part of the state to Wisconsin if you like. You can build your own outdoor skating rink in your backyard. Sledding, skiing, snow boarding, or ski jumping, there is a hill for that in Burnsville.

Winter, it's what you make of it. Really, it's probably my favorite season.

Lurking around here and there. I see HROT is still locked up. My brother told me over the 4th the place pretty much sucks now.

I think we may be comparing apples to oranges. Im talking the average price of an average neighborhood in downtown dc. Not the avg price of a higher end area such as Georgetown or Clarendon (approx $2200/mo 1bed 1ba).

I stayed at a buddys condo in key biscayne outside of miami and the condos there are considerably cheaper than in dc. Loved Miami though... Key Biscayne especially. Private beaches and hot housewives.
