Go. $150k -$250k. 3b 2ba. I can hop on Zillow, but unsure if an area is good or bad.

Edit* I don’t want this to be a pissing contest like it always seems to end up, but would Houston or Dallas Ft. Worth be better?

I currently live in DC and am single. Affording property up here will take forever or living on beans. I’m from the south, ready to move back. Tired of these winters and real estate prices. Houston or DFW are appealing from a job market, climate, and affordability standpoint. I could get into a larger mortgage but see no reason to, a starter home is all I need.

Let’s just cut to the part where everyone recommends Katy.

Use Redfin instead and go by the school ratings then you can narrow your search down based upon the school.

Spring / Cypress area was good 20 years ago, I'm not sure now though.

DO NOT live in the burbs. Even if you have to rent. Houston is a great city, but people that live outside the loop hate it with a passion. Don’t be one of those lifeless idiots.

Where is your job?

It is a pretty important basis for recommendation.

Where do you recommend getting a starter home at 150-250 in Houston? That's tough if you don't want to be in the burbs. Maybe Westchase but that place is hit or miss and pretty far out there. 3rd ward?

Where will you be working? You really need to consider that commute. There are pockets of good communities all throughout Houston, but if you are commuting back-and-forth to Magnolia four hours every day...

The Heights is a great area, but I'm not sure if your budget will meet it.
Stay away from the wards.

If you weren't too poor to get into Carlton Woods you wouldn't be saying this
