Definitely not a mathematician or similar which may be what your point is. I can however compute multiple integer calculations in my head. But why do kids have to show work exactly like these rules stipulate. Ex:
That kid shouldn't get points off.
That kid shouldn't get points off.

Mainly because it shows the ability to solve a problem more than 1 way and it shows understanding... Common Core is fairly simple once you get used to it and understand the purpose behind it.

I'm not sure what there is to argue. The two questions, when asked to show work were incorrect.
Are those even "common core" questions?
These two problems which had points deducted were a very important part of my linear algebra classes in college. If I could learn something like this that easily early on, it would have been nothing but a benefit.

Don't get too excited. Other states are doing this, too. To be sure, the curriculum will still be "common core"--just without the villanous name attached.
As I read what was in the OP I was just thinking -- so we are keeping common core. Which is not necessarily a bad thing to me.

I guess my real problem is there is multiple ways to solve most problems. It seems that we are continuing to base structure more than freedom of thinking.
I don't really care how it is computed as long as the student or professional understands how to achieve success. If it helps the dumb kids great. But those who don't need it shouldn't be punished.
For instances last job dealt solely with trig every single day all day. If most didn't have a computer they were helpless so it shows that most are incompetent in that field.

Common core for public schools in LA was A GOOD THING

Fantastic. The last thing we should be doing is following standards set by people from successful places.

Common core math gets slammed, but the data seems to support it.

Oh well, it is a good thing some mom bitching about homework at a school board meeting is what drives policy.
