What’s the TD experience on Benz chassis Rvs? I’ve had a couple of German cars in my lifetime and found they were always expensive as hell to maintain. I can only guess that’s the same with benz rvs. Or because they aren’t daily drivers is there less wear and tear? Our Chevy chassis coach is 20 years old, looking for an update. Only one unscheduled repair on that coach.

I remember driving from Kallispel to Whitefish a few years back and seeing a random house of the side of the road with an LSU flag. Was that you baw?

I think you've answered your own question.

Avoid.

MB doesn't support the OEM chassis very well, and there's a lot of oddball aftermarket products on it due to packaging constraints.

It would be my last choice for a mini-RV.

ETA; currently own 3 German cars. Love 'em.

the sprinter van seems to be really popular. One of the very few that you can get factory 4WD.

Tiffen has had quality and service issues. Thor now owns them and has gone downhill since.

You have to go further north than Whitefish

Those things look dangerously top heavy.

Have a friend who has one, says it surprisingly stable at 80 on the interstate as well as when he’s off road.

I would love a Sprinter. The 200 of them at any given time waiting for service in the Westminster, CO MB parking lot gives me pause. They sure are popular though.

I was once told to choose a base platform that would have parts at any small town auto shop. Mercedes doesn’t fit that description. F250 with a chassis camper or a solid front axle E350 would be my choice.

Interesting. Maybe it’s lighter up top than it looks.

Been garbage since they sold out to Thor. Bob built a premier coach and brand it’s a shame what it is now.

Montana doesn't have many Benz dealerships.

The only thought I have is it would not be a daily driver, so it isn't as critical when it is down. I shudder at the prospect of a 500,00 oil change though.

Cat hasn't sold OTR engines to the RV industry since 06, so you can buy some MY 07s, but that's it.

Excellent engines, and no DEF.

Renegade's Vera Cruz line is on a Ford chassis, with the 6.7 diesel and available 4WD.
It is exponentially better than the Sprinter, but is not as small as the OP is considering.

Speaking of German cars, I’ll throw this out. Mid America Motorworks (formally Corvette) that supplies a lot of VW parts was destroyed by a tornado yesterday. No one hurt, but the building was a total loss. Inside the building were a lot of rare vehicles.

Not all MB dealerships work on Sprinters. So if it needs work, you may have to go out of your way..................

Most Ford dealerships work on Transits

I do the majority of maintenance on my cars but my wife’s (no pics) Benz makes my blood boil dealing with those snakes at the dealer. It’s closer to $400 for the oil change which comes with the territory, but when they want $300 for a cabin air filter “that’s difficult to get to” or “the rear brakes need attention at 20k miles” (and before the front brakes)… yeah, get effed. Found a smaller dealer that does not upsell and upfront with their cost which makes it tolerable. It’s a nice automobile but I’m glad we only have one.

For the sprinter, I just don’t want to be stuck in BFE waiting for hotshotted parts to be installed by a shadetree with minimal expertise.
