No because of the words he expressed. He sounded more mature than the teacher and that says a lot.

The teacher basically said some shite he probably read on tHE OT. I've heard that unempathetic, deaf rhetoric around one too many times.

Why would you not believe that?

Because when black people are well spoken they are respectful and intelligent.

When white people are well spoken, well.....they're just white

Yeah, let's rail on this kid to who is 16, 17 years old tops . And let's not forget he was speaking about a very touchy subject and in front of a large crowd and many who were his authority figures.

I'm not railing on him. I'm just saying he sounds like he's regurgitating something he heard

Whites didn't exactly use the term correctly for a few hundred years. It's Ok to take a break from it for a while

I am now less intelligent after watching the embedded video.

I feel like I'm being racially discriminated against because I don't have a word that only people like me can say.

If the word is so offensive to a group that group needs to let the word die, not glamorize it. For example, the term bitch is popular today because many women think it's cool to call themselves or other women bitches. On the other hand, how many times to you hear Italian-Americans calling each other WOPs? Then ask yourself how many times you hear that word outside of an historic movie. I know I never hear that term used, it became socially unacceptable and Americans of Italian decent didn't give it life within their own community. That point is what the kid doesn't seem to understand.

Of course. The kid who spoke eloquently at the assembly surely can't have his own opinions. He has no idea what he said. Please.

What he said had no substance behind it and was a plain regurgitation of contemporary leftist cliches surrounding race and gender. He's entitled to whatever opinion he wants but it's laughable to act as if that was some substantive, remarkable content. It wasn't.

No. Actually he didn't. Better watch that video again and take off those brown colored sunglasses you have on this time.

He sounded like the adult in the room.

The first young man...he's young. If he's reading this, I want him to know you're gonna come across a lot of assholes like that in life. Guys that will just spite you because they believe if they "let you have your way" then it will take something away from them. These are small, small insecure men that will use force and intimidation and fear to put you down. It was an emotionally charged moment, and he sadly used your emotions against you.

Look at it, a full grown man sheepishly and grotesquely found pleasure in emotionally upsetting a 16 year old. If that's not problematic to anyone, then they are probably just like the sub. As you get older, people will try to do this to you but don't give in to their petty nature. When they go low, you go high. Use your mind, smarts and knowledge to outwit and outsympathy them. You're better than the level he's trying to bring you to. You'll learn to control your emotions and not let assholes make you cower to their cowardice.

You'll be fine. Compassion, empathy and understanding have and will continue to push this world much further than the ignorance, stubbornness, and vengeance your sub showed you.

Really? I didn't know I was being a white supremist by speaking and writing with proper grammar.

It's not very hard to speak and write well.

Dude I just saw an adult get joy out of making a kid upset...and adult that couldn't speak to the dynamics of the world and literally didn't consider that this was a young man. He can't speak to the power of that word and the affect it may have on some when they hear it. It's okay to listen and to be taught by others. A little bit of humility and recognition that you don't have it all figured out goes a long way.

I'm supposed to back a dirtbag like that? It has nothing to do with bias and everything with compassion and respecting others.

If I were a teacher and was having a discussion with what I believed to be reasonably intelligent students i would. No word should have that much power.

I wish they could expel all the kids who were snapping fingers at the assembly. At least they'll be prepared for Ivy League protests at the next level.

As an alumn from the '80's I can say we regularly had vigorous debate and discourse on all kinds of topics - no telling what would have happened back then with social media.

I'm disappointed but not surprised that it was posted online - now the video before the kumbaya moment will go viral, agitators and teachers' unions and lawyers will get involved, and money wasted. Why on earth are they allowed to have their cell phones out during class and school assemblies anyway?

What are your thoughts on discussing the n-word in a responsible discussion about taboo terms in society?...

The coach was right. Kid let the word have too much power.
