Something meaningful is far more important than being busy. Routine business is the source of much depression

Depression is the most easily treatable mental illness. Almost everyone experiences depression at some point in his life. You'll probably pull out of it on your own but just know that you can shorten the time you spend down. Just a visit to your GP can take care of it. Go.

I’m gonna have to disagree. Depression is likely the most common mental illness. If it was so easily treatable you wouldn’t have so many suicides in those with clinical depression. And your regular doctor can try to help....but really you should be seeing an experienced psychiatrist that knows more about medication management and can find the right meds for each individual.

Medications that can take months before they make a difference isn’t what I would call “easily treated”.

Anyone that dismisses depression as something serious are ignorant and have no clue how bad it is for those that have this. You can’t just “snap out of it”.

Look, I’m not trying to catch any flak for saying this, but to me, the best cure for the blues or moderate depression is 100 mg of Jesus. I’m not trying to get all spiritual or tell people how to live their lives, but you’d be surprised by how many people that are depressed and do not have a relationship with God.

Dontate some of your time to a charity. If that doesn’t make you feel good, I don’t know what will.

I know of many people that are/were depressed. The only two that committed suicide were on prescribed meds. Those meds stop working after awhile and then you have to pay the piper times 1000000.

You need to encourage that person to pick up a hobby (anything) that interests them and to stick with it.

I've gotten pretty good at drinking.

Well, I guess that's off the table.

I would say the approach to treating it could be simple but not easy by any means

Similar to losing weight, simple but not easy for some people

I was in a similiar situation last year. Didnt even think happiness was a real thing...just varying degrees of being miserable.

I walked away from every single thing that i had thought would make me happy, gave it all up.

Met someone new and happy for first time in my life

I gave up everything and for the time being, I have it all.
