It is official. While with good sense and diet I have lost weight. I have only lost weight and am in the worst shape of my life.
So I began tonight. Going to try and mix in an Insanity or P 90x workout in when not jogging.
Anybody have good links to sites or vids for a beginning running program. From point "0"!!!!

Good shoes are important

Couch to 5k is good. But really only for those who live a VERY sedentary lifestyle - it's very slow at first.

Quarters and halves. Break your 52 minute 10k up into quarters and halves. Have a quarter mile workout day and a half mile workout day. First two weeks 90 second rest in between, second two weeks, 60 seconds, 3rd two weeks 30 seconds. Example: there are roughly 25 quarter miles in a 10k, with a goal of 52 mins, you'd want these quarters to be 1:45 to 1:52, do one, rest 90 seconds, do another, repeat (you'll shorten your rest as you get better). And for your half mile day, do 12 at a slightly slower pace. These workouts are the fastest way to get your times down.

I get terrible shin splints from running on direct cement. I would suggest a track or treadmill if you could.

Take it slow! It's hard to do it but it's worth not rushing it. I tried pushing myself and ended up with a tibial plateau fracture. If your bodies not used to running you can really frick some shite up.

"CouchTo5k" is legit.

What's it like? I play doubles tennis for 2 -3 hours 3 days a week but that's about it for me lately. I'd like to run but it feels like my heart will explode after only a few minutes. I can run on the court with no problems as long as I'm focused on the game and not running.

Screw jogging long distance, lift weights three days a week(starting strength is what you should use) and do wind sprints on off days.

This. Long distance cardio where you workout at a steady pace for an extended period of time is the dumbest way to go about working out

Yea its essentially a waste of time unless you enjoy it. Lifting heavy compound movements burns more calories and will have a bigger effect on your quality of life.
Op if you are in decent shape and just want to continue to lose and dont want to do sprints, I would look into the greyskull lci program. If you wanna get an idea of what it is like you could look at it on scribd.

The fact that there's a book on how to run a 5K is so mindbogglingly ridiculous I barely know how to comment on it.
No offense to the fatties on here, but a Couch to 5K book should be one page. It should say:
1. Get off couch
2. Run for 35-40 minutes
3. Done
The fact that anyone under the age of 50 can't stop what they're doing and run 5K at a moment's notice is disguting.

Agreed. When I see people talk about training for a 5k I can't help but laugh out of sadness for our society

Interval training is the best.
Week 1: Run 1 minute, walk 1 minute for 15-20 minutes
Week 2: Run 2, walk 2
Week 3: Run 2, walk 1
Week 4: Run 3, walk 2
Week 5: Run 3, walk 1
Week 6: run 4, walk 1
Etc etc
You can speed this up, obviously.

Body weight workouts are way better for you.

Find a better program. Like C25k.
And shoes. Get good shoes.

Left foot right foot left foot right foot repeat.
Push yourself, if you're tired and wanna stop you're doing it right.
Not much to it tbh

Losing 26 pounds at that age is pretty impressive. How long'd that take?
Like some others have said, running isn't the best way. Unless you like to run I guess.
Do high-intensity intervals. Cardio 30 min, weights, cardio, weights, cardio, weights, finish with cardio. There are a lot of different programs out there.
