Years ago there was a story on panhandlers in the Lafayette Independent, they interviewed a bunch of them. When asked who gives the most money, the response was overwhelmingly black women.

I literally look them in the eye. If they are man enough to beg for money, I see if they are man enough to look someone in the eye. They usually look and back down right away.

In 2007 I had a beggar hit me for “food money” inside of a McDonald’s in Louisville, KY, in line to order breakfast.

Me too! I kept trying to avoid them in the streets, but to no avail. I tired of washing the blood off my windows, so I let it cake and..wahlahh..tinted windows.

My wife was telling me a story about one of her employees last night. His wife was going through McDonald's DT and he was making the short walk home. He came across one of the beggers and offered to have his wife pickup something for the guy. The begger asked if she could bring him Taco Bell instead. The offer of McDonald's was made again and the guy started arguing about it.
It's getting out of control. My wife and I always observe the shoes. If you had enough money to buy those new Air Jordans on your feet you shouldn't be begging for food. There's one guy right near the McDonald's who is there nearly everyday...wheelchair, no legs, and a sign stating he is a vet. He's the only guy I've seen who I have considered buying food for. I'm thankful for what we have but if I want to do something to help I'll donate money or time to a shelter. At least you know it's actually going to someone in need.

So, the vet with no legs was wearing Jordans? Yeah, I don’t believe his story either. Something doesn’t add up…
