InBev plans take over of SABMiller
A merger would create a "super brewery" with nine of the world's top 20 beers by volume, and annual sales of $55 billion. Shares in both companies shot up -- the combined group would be worth about $276 billion at Wednesday's prices.
If the deal happens, it will be the biggest merger in brewing history, and could rank among the top 10 takeovers of all time, according to Dealogic and EY.
Inbev: Budweiser, Corona and Stella Artois. Its international brands are Beck's, Hoegaarden (Belgium) and Leffe.
SABMiller: Fosters, Miller, Peroni, Castle. SABMiller is one of the world’s largest Coca-Cola bottlers and has carbonated soft drinks bottling operations in 14 markets.

This is precisely why I drink Thunderbird.

Holy shite. That would be ridiculous. InBev is already the biggest brewer in the world. AB alone dwarfs the production of Miller and Coors.

i wonder if this has anything to do with Greg Koch stepping down at Stone

They'll definitely help their tap share in markets with these mergers.

I hope Miller Lite doesn't begin to taste like Bud Light.

I doubt I drink any of their swill anyway.

This is not a good thing for consumers.

BS. Coors is WAY better than bud or miller. It's a lot more full bodied and refreshing. The water that Coors uses is much higher quality too.

Sorry to offend your palate, Mr. Peanut!

Sure it is- as more and more people see mass produced crap beer, it will just accelerate the trend of the exploding craft brewery scene.
Mass produced beer has been slowly losing market share for some time. I think this merger is a product of that trend.

Get out of here. Communist. It's actually a good thing for consumers. IF you don't like the big "corporate" beer go buy craft or whatever. But for the rest of the consumers, the synergy will mean lower production costs.

If only someone could mass produce craft beer to keep it under $3 a bottle.

You´re assuming this will translate into a lower sales price, aren´t you?
It´s just going to mean:
a. enhanced debt service capability
b. bigger marketing budget

It is good for consumers that drink crap, but for people that like to support local or craft breweries, having one giant monopoly controlling everything, from legislation to the distributors, the isn't a good thing.
