Congrats, other than bringing an innocent life into this absolute fricking shithole of a world, with no direction and a dimmer future than ever.

Congratulations! I had a son first and when my wife was pregnant for #2 I wanted another boy but got a little girl. Best thing to ever happen to me. Enjoy her while you have her, they grow up so damned fast. It seems like yesterday she was a little curly haired tomboy chasing after her brother and now she's a 19 year old college junior living 8 1/2 hours away. I miss her every day. Kenny Chesney's "There Goes my Life" really sums it up well for me.

Well there are two flaws in your post.

1. The most richness you'll every have in your life comes from having and raising a child.

2. The richness you're talking about must be fairly petty. If you're a baller and you have a child, you're still going to be a baller.

It just gets better and better man. I'm listening to my 9 month old babble while he's playing right now. It's such a good sound. Especially since 90% of what he says is "dada".

Piece of advice, record her crying. You'll even miss that one day.

That feeling of peace that you feel? It's all biological. You're just protecting your genetic legacy. You and billions around the world.

My kids are assholes. Little frickers stole any semblance of freedom I had left.

Only goes downhill from there.

Tru dat....the reason they are so dammed loveable when they are little is because you would pinch their fricking heads off when they get about 8...

And that peace only lasts while in the hospital and you can send for the nurse to take them back to the nursery...get 'em home and there ain't no peace no more...ever...until you reach room temperature.

I love my kids and I wouldn't not have them for anything...the best decision my wife ever made by far (I would have bought a sail boat instead). and being a daddy is the best gig I ever had....but it is TOUGH...very tough...and the rewards are little things like a "I love you daddy" or a look when they are with friends to make sure everything is ok....and these things are worth more than any amount of money....but it ain't easy...and many, many, many men are not man enough to be a daddy....

Congrats man, that's awesome. Though I wonder if anyone else had the feelings I did. I'd say it took a little time for fatherhood to "grow on me". She's our first child, and though it was a new and exciting experience, I didn't have the connection that my wife had from you know, growing a human being inside of her. The miracle of early life amazed me, but the emotion wasn't yet there. I was instantly a father, but not yet a dad, if that makes sense.

Now that I have a 1 and a half year old, and know how amazing it is to be a dad, I'm sure I'll have that emotional connection from the jump with our next child. I don't plan on telling my first born this story though

Congrats OP and I could t agree more. As far as the money concerns don't be. If your like me you can live in a cardboard box and life couldn't be sweeter as long as that kid is healthy and happy. It gets better everyday! Just remember this one thing... You'll learn from them as much as they learn from you. They'll make you a better man without you realizing it!

They will also make you want to be a better man....you will do things that you would otherwise not do because you know they are watching and learning....and you know you aren't worthy....so you work extra hard to make certain that they don't realize just how unworthy you truly are....

My daughter is almost 7 months and it's still a dream. I can't imagine life without her. God has blessed her mother and I more than we could ever hope

Became a father 5 weeks ago. I have a healthy, perfect son. All the cliche things people say are true. "you have never felt a love like that before" "it's the best thing you've ever done in life" My wife and I were petrified the first week or so, but then i go to the local store and see people i deem "way less qualified" to have kids and they manage to keep them alive so i feel like she and i will be fine. Congrats man!

We have a seven week old. It's amazing. She smiles so much when she sees us in the morning. My heart explodes every time.
