“I imagine I’ve spent at least $5,000 on fixing car windows in the past couple of years,” Michael Morris said.

Morris lives in the Bayou St. John neighborhood and says he and his neighbors wake up to their street littered with glass constantly. ...

Monday night, was the second time in less than a month his truck had been broken into. The thieves smashed glass he just replaced.

“The kids come up the street, they break the all the car windows, they dive through the windows,” Morris described.

It happens to his cars so often, he has a standing relationship with several glass companies, although he says supply chain issues and the increase in people needing windows is causing delays for him.

“It had to be shipped from Kansas, it was the only one they could find, nobody has any,” Morris said of his front window. LINK /

My son lives in that neighborhood and back in November his car was stolen from the front of his house. It was found a week later completely destroyed. All the windows busted out. The dashboard torn apart so they could steal the sound system. Catalytic converter gone.

Consider it your tax to pay for living in Orleans. A form of reparations......Vote people like the Destroya out get up and take the city back....Otherwise clean up glass and shut up.

At some point these people sounds like bitches.

Nobody should have their windows busted in at night, but come on man, this has been going on for years and you havent done anything different at all?

Wonder how much it would cost to install bullet proof glass on a vehicle? May be a sound investment for nola residents

This right here... I'd be sitting out with a shotgun waiting for one of those little POS urban youths and teach him a lesson.

And if the neighborhood did a watch where the residents stood out there and watched over the streets, they would be called racist.

Organize a watch system. Everyone in the hood takes a turn patrolling the street(s) at night with an AK and when they spot some one attempting to break a window then.......

I'm going to preface this by saying that I absolutely love Memphis and I think it's home to some incredible people.

But you reminded me of when my wife's car got broken into in the Cooper/Madison area in midtown Memphis while she was at a restaurant with her coworkers. She foolishly left her back pack in the car (obscured, but still there). It contained her laptop and a bunch of pre-med textbooks.

Anyways - almost every car in the parking lot got broken into. The thief took her entire backpack. Memphis police came and dusted all the cars but I don't think anything came of it.

We got a call a few days later from a homeowner on Florence near Peabody; she said that a bunch of notes and textbooks with my wife's name on it were thrown in her garden. Turns out the thief had kept the beaten old laptop, but threw 4-5 textbooks (some costs $250 apiece) into some random yard.

Turns out the homeowner saw it and figured out exactly what happened, and contacted a friend of theirs at U of Memphis to help get the books back to the right person. U of Memphis surprisingly gave the homeowner my wife's contact info and I got her books back.

The loss of the laptop was infuriating. The damage to her car (an worn out but much appreciated Trailblazer with probably 150,000+ miles at the time) wasn't as big of a deal. It took forever to get the fingerprint dust out of it. It's still funny that the textbook and notes were completely ignored by the thief. Any fool that's been on a college campus before would know how to sell them and make a lot of cash.
