Trash bag.
Fish batter bag.
Fried fish holder. (after adding a few paper towels)
We still request paper for our cold items to be placed in at our local grocery store. Then bring them home and save them for above mentioned uses.

My grandmother used to bake fish with a seafood sauce on top in paper bags. Delicious.

There was also that certain girl in high school that was a lot of fun. But you always wished you had a paper bag. Always good for a butter face girl.

We wrapped our text books with them. All fried food drained in them. Went sleep at a buddies house, had to have one with your clothes.

I used to make kites out of them and of course bookcovers.

Fill them up with pecans that we picked.

We used them to dress up as Indians, back when you could still call them Indians and dress up up as one.

Used them to batter fish to fry.

This is all we did with them too, family-wise.
But me and my friend would use them to make fake cigarettes and smoke them in the woods.

School lunch.
I would re-use it unless the fried egg sammich would leak thru and leave a big spot on the bag.

A family in our neighborhood lived in a house made out of paper bags.
We all aspired to such luxury.
We lived in a pothole in the road.

I remember the book cover days well. Other than fish fries and occasional trash bag that's about it.

NWLAtiger55 posted what I used them for back in the day. When I was a kid, there were no plastic grocery bags and just about every kid in class would have brown paper bag book covers as it was required to have books covered by the school.

Can't believe no one has posted the most strategic use of a brown paper sack yet:

As a shaker to batter fish..
Also great for absorbing oil from freshly fried food.
