new higher* sales tax
Why do people still think that republicans are for small government? People need to face the facts that we have 2 leftwing parties.

Man just let it go. Don’t you see those posters are going to start cutting their own hair and perform sock puppet shows for their kids as was to avoid the new tax because they have outstanding personal responsibility

I’ll make more money from this, so whatever I guess. I just hate to see my brothers and sisters of Louisiana get sold a bill of goods

If Louisiana dropped ALL income and property taxes in favor of a 25% sales tax, how far away from a neighboring state would you have to be for you to buy that new fridge in Louisiana?
I'd move to Louisiana immediately.

We can see that. You're ignorant and narcissistic enough to pretend this is something we can't know. They certainly never let it be known what their thoughts were on the issue.

That is correct

so yes. You did say something of the sort.
OK, my mistake. Let me be more clear:
Yes, I do believe people who are currently pay income taxes will end up paying less in a consumption-tax based system. So when someone makes a blanket statement that most on this board will pay more (or me personally, in this case), I think that poster is incorrect.
No, I don't think they will pay less in SALES taxes.

What is the basis of this other than that’s what you believe? Even in the proposal the state claims that by increasing the sales tax rate will be revenue neutral with the income tax reduction… then a couple of weeks later they add digital products to the sale tax base.
Walk me through that math

Well no it’s not voluntary. If I buy something I have to pay. And here in the real world it takes spending to survive.
Sure, but if you tried hard enough and worked hard enough you could eventually move yourself away from paying consumption taxes.
What can you do to move yourself away from paying income and/or property taxes and other compulsory taxes?

Send me some literature on their thoughts on the pros and cons of sales tax as opposed to state income tax. I’d be fascinated to hear their thoughts of the matter

Yes I know this is the OT and everyone here is millionaires. But to mingo and i’s point, we are discussing the outcome for the average Louisiana citizen. And this change will increase the tax burden for the average Louisiana resident

They literally ran the country on tariffs, which are consumption taxes, and completely rejected income taxes (especially the idea of a "progressive income tax").

Potentially. If they were to eliminate property and income taxes completely, and run solely on consumption taxes, all Louisianans would end up better off over time.

Just tax everyone more via income tax so you don't have to be bothered with silly things like budgets, or personal responsibility.
eliminate the state income tax
lower the state sales tax
eliminate revenue-negative tax breaks and credits
lower overall spending, reduce waste & redundancies, collect what is owed and charge for services rendered
hire me...my rates are reasonable

How? Growing my own crops? Sewing my own clothes? It’s nonsense that people convince themselves is somehow better because it’s not on muh income even though you’ll very likely pay more.
I’ve never understood the hate against income as the metric for taxation. Literally no one in the history of ever has said I only get to keep 70 cents or whatever it would be of every dollar I make so fvck I don’t want that 70 cents. Or convince themselves they’re better off paying 35 cents because “they got to choose to do so”.

If they did this there’d hardly be any Louisianans

But if you moved to lousiana, would you dutifully pay the extra 15+% on every purchase you made or would you be sure to make as many of your larger purchases as possible in MS or TX where the same items are significantly cheaper?
