Dude legitimately has no clue what he’s talking about, which is fine. No one is an expert on everything… but he is saying some dumb shite with extreme confidence

While this is probably true, people have the option to not consume. No one needs Netflix.

If people want to pay less consumption tax then it’s pretty easy to do - consume less.

But that's when the left's mortal enemy, personal responsibility, comes into play. Mingo don't like when he's the one to blame for his own actions.

For what it’s worth, you’re not wrong. The majority of people will end up paying more in taxes, not less.

Not sure why you’re being downvoted for pointing that out. A flat income tax and increased consumption tax is 100% a tax on the poor.

It's time they paid their fair share. Most of the spending is on them.

Oh, and sorry you're short and poor.

I have a feeling you're going to be embarrassingly wrong on this, but the fact remains that no one is forcing you to buy the exact same goods next year. You can pay as little in sales taxes as you wish. You do not have the same luxury with income taxes, assuming you want to have a good job and have put in the effort to get one.

And inflation continues to rise, you’ll pay even more in real dollars.

This part makes no sense in this discussion.

How is the government taking taxes from sales any different than from income. If one is stealing so is the other.

That's nonsense. One is voluntary and the other is not. If you don't want to pay sales taxes, you buy less.

If you don't want to pay income taxes, you...go jobless and lose everything? Live off the government?

Not sure how anyone could equate these two things tbh.

I’m as fiscally conservative as they come. You guys are going to pay more taxes. If you are ok with that so long as it’s not an income tax, that’s your prerogative.

But the State itself has already told you it’s not a tax cut, only a tax shift. And that was before they expanded the tax base. If you want to talk about how it distributes the tax amongst taxpayers, that’s at least a conversation I guess. But yall can’t get the fundamentals through your thick slack jawed skulls to even start that conversation.

It's fine for him too. Consumption taxes are far better for all involved.

Let's not extrapolate the arguments for the poors who think they're going to pay more to everyone else who realizes they won't.

So you pay more in sales taxes for the goods you purchase, but you make less income because people are consuming less of your goods. A lose, lose in your ideal scenario. Great solution!

You still make more money for every dollar you earn. Are taxes too high due to unencumbered government spending? OF COURSE. But that’s not a reason to make yourself worse off

If a good costs $100 this year and $110 next year and my main tax is sales tax, I’m paying more in tax for the same good. My tax burden has increased even if I haven’t made an extra dollar making me worse off than the year before. Income tax is incremental, it only increases as you earn more money.

Then should be easy for you to save doubly in 2025. Congratulations!

You guys are going to pay more taxes.

No i'm not. Unless i just buy a bunch more things, which would be on me. I'll take the .5% income tax cut in exchange for the .5% sales tax raise (until 2029 BTW, then it drops to 4.75%) and bet on myself, rather than the state.

Seems to me, your just mad at the agent of change, rather than the change itself. Therefore, "income tax cut bad".

Correct. It is a great solution.

The only people who will be "worse off" are the ones who are paying literally nothing in income taxes now.

Those people SHOULD have more skin in the game and I fully support them paying more in taxes.
