So here is the question: was this actress cast because (a) she did the best job in auditions embodying the character; or (b) the studio wants to pander to certain elements of the audience and curry favor with certain political movements? It could be either, but in the current climate, one has to be suspicious that extraneous factors like race may have trumped merit.
