went to party at a guys home in the Oak Hill section of south Nashville. He had an amazing collection of Civil War era artillery and small arms projectiles. He had hundred of mini balls and probably 30 cannon balls. Everything he had was found on his lot. Turns out his house was built on the site of a union artillery battery and the Yanks and Rebs spent a good bit of time firing back at forth at each other.

He said he hit one cannonball with his mower blade and was damn lucky he didn't get killed.

I appreciate you insight. I'm strictly 'arm-chairing' this in hindsight i'm not trying to dis-credit the gun system.

I appreciate your thoughts, too. This is a very complex topic. People who want to understand the nature of warfare during the years 1914 through 1953, will need to understand these topics -- a broad range of topics that takes a long time to learn.
