Since when did plantations become death camps? Does she really believe that a business like a plantation would just kill off assets for fun. I'd like to see the numbers on slaves punished or executed vs. today's rates of incarceration or death penalty receivers. The executions are probably down due to legal costs but in any society there will be troublemakers. Literally

good point, I mean if I paid top dollar for a grade A slave that was 6'5 225 of solid muscle, I'm not going to kill him off....im going to breed that son of a bitch

What percentage of slave owners hanged slaves? I'd imagine that number would be pretty low.

Yeah, Slaves were considered property (while that is repulsive, it is the way things were then). I doubt many farmers destroy their tractors when they wont start.

Was slavery horrible, of course. But it was not the white man who invented it. All races have been enslaved by someone at sometime. Between the Egyptians, Huns, Romans, and Chinese I cant think of some place that has not had slavery.

I'm sure they identify as freedom fighters too, they're neither.

Words mean things, self identification doesn't.

Fascism is hard to define, that wasn't my point.

The likelyhood that the 13 year old killed another african-american is very very high. People like that 13 year old are why their neighborhoods are unsafe. This is why his position about our fricked up society is moronic. Free the prisoners, don't police us, but WHY DON'T YOU CARE WHEN WE ARE BEING MURDERED?

I drove past it yesterday, and after seeing that plantation home sitting in the middle of that cleared land, all I could think was, "This is going to piss somebody off."

I don't know what they are calling the house, but the houses will be antebellum homes right? Houses can be antebellum style homes and not be a plantation.

Slavery is inhumane and I would never even attempt to justify that it should have existed, but it did and it just so happened that during that time, people lived in antebellum style homes. The design was mainly influenced by the environment the homes were built in.

Personally, I like antebellum homes. If I bought land and decided to build an antebellum home to live in, will that make me a racist or somehow associate me with slavery?

I get what you are saying but it's the name of the team. So we have to call them by that name.

If anything I'd put the far right and far left in the same category. They are both dipfricks that need to go away and leave politics for reasonable people.

Bro, they have a separate house known as the "servant quarters" on the property. Slaves being a part of Goodwood isn't debatable. I don't give a shite about racial undertones or burial grounds, I just think it sucks to cut down a bunch of healthy trees that old

One thing that's always bothered me about these types of people is when they talk about slavery, all they focus on is hangings, beatings, or some other harsh treatment.

I'm not saying these things didn't happen, but they act like that's the only thing that happened.

They forget that only the super rich could afford a prized asset like a slave. These people wanted their slaves to be strong producers. They didn't want half starved, injured or dead slaves.

This would be like people buying Maseratis just use them as a 4 wheel drive.

It doesn't make business sense.

Not to mention that that's private land. If they wanted to turn the entire thing into a parking lot they could.

If the plantation home and current property are designated as a historical site then I suspect they would have needed to have an archaeological survey done before any dirt work started.

She keeps saying they are building this for rich white people.

Is this a segregated community where other races are not allowed? Kinda like Fargo, ND without the snow?

I mean... it's not like that doesn't happen often, everywhere. Personal property and all.

It's a former plantation surrounded by homes. Now the homes will be just a little closer. I have no fricking clue what the problem is here.
