And of course move the zoo as well from its dreadful location in North Baton Rouge. Can't imagine why no one wants to make the trek to visit the "Baton Rouge" zoo in Baker, LA. Not to mention the boring layout and exhibits when compared to a place like the Audubon Zoo.

An aquarium downtown would do wonders for tourism and helping to build up and revitalize a very boring downtown scene.

Has there ever been talks on having an aquarium downtown? A first rate zoo and aquarium would completely revitalize the image of Baton Rouge. Not to mention give the locals some more options on the weekends.

Government doesn't have to build the aquarium. Could be done by wealthy benefactors like the Atlanta aquarium.

If you are comparing with the Audubon Zoo, don't forget there is a top 10 aquarium at the foot of canal.

It would become a low-end aquarium very quickly

If you want nice things like good zoos and aquariums, you shouldn't be living in BR

You want murders, because that's how you get murders.

ETA: I have a 375 gallon aquarium at my house. The tour costs 20 dollars.

Would be another jewel in the crown that is Baton Rouge revitalization...along with the Super Matherne's and The Roux House.

You don't think that there were tax benefits given to build that?

I live in mid-city and can get to the BR zoo faster than I can get to the Audubon Zoo from the French Quarter when I'm in NOLA or when visiting family in Kenner.

The BR Zoo actually has a lot of room to expand, and the money they would need to raise for a move would be well spent on a facelift and expansion. The current state of the zoo looks much better than it did 10 years ago, but it still has some chainlink fence enclosures that need to go.

Audubon Zoo and Aquarium are just over an hour from here, as well as the Global Wildlife Center.

I don't think it is smart to invest that type of money for a first rate setup.

However, I do like the idea of upgrading the aquarium displays at the current BR zoo. The one they have now is put to shame by the free to see aquariums in Cabellas and Bass Pro shop.
