my mother has been teaching private in s'port for 25 years. still makes less than equal public teacher. BUT, she says it's worth it not having to worry about all the public school problems, ie, guns to your face, etc
well, generally speaking, in private schools you are dealing with more kids who want to be there

do you think private schools turns out more successful college students/young professionals in their social, acadameic in their professional lives?
I'm from New Orleans, so I can honestly say yes, I do think this. It may be different in other regions, but for my area I think it's true.

I believe it would be interesting to see which actually does better. If you take the kids in public school where both parents are college educated vs private school where both parents are college educated. I doubt there would be that great of a difference as far as the children's ability to succeed in college.

Move to Central (or Livingston or Ascension if you can handle the traffic) and save that money for College!!!!!!!

Per capita, I'd say yes
That's kind of what he meant when he said "% Wise". Damn public school education!
and I got a very good education in BR. As another poster put it, you get out of it what you put in. You can still get a good education but there are more distractions now.

It also depends hugely on if the kid even really wants to be in College. Lets face it, not everyone is cut out for it!! How many parents end up wasting thier savings on a kid who was destined to fail there and refused to see the signs????

I said Zachary earlier. Did you go to school in Livingston Parrish? Over the past 5 years?

I think the top four are Zachary area, LP, Asc., and St. Tamm.

the biggest difference is environment but it may not be in the way that some of you might think. Some feel like the difference is race or social class based divides but it really has more to do with the individual kids and their attitude about school.
In a public school, they herd the kids all day in large classes (30+) and some kids really don't want to be there. So they act out, which disrupts the rest the of the class. This can go on and on until the kid has the option of dropping out. when they are acting out because they don't want to be there, there really is no where for them to go unless they are severely disrupting the class. then they can be sent to an alternative school, but even those aren't permanent solutions.
In a private school, when the administration reaches their tolerance limit for a kid's behavior, he/she is asked to leave the school. There is no herding of problem kids in private school because they dont have to stand for it and their charters are set up with class size limits. When parents are involved in the school, the disruptive kids are on borrowed time because paying tuition means a certain level of expectations that will prompt a parent to go to the administration if there is a problem.
This difference in public and private can't be solely attributed to race or money, it is much deeper than that. The successful public school systems are run like a business on the private school model. The discipline level in the successful public schools are based on what the adults (parents/teachers/admins) will allow to happen until they reach their bad behavior tolerance threshold with individual kids. Not the school as a whole.
You simply cant rule the entire herd but you can rule the problem cows and keep the herd in line.
