The East Baton Rouge Metro Council is scheduled to vote Wednesday on whether to approve a proposed $5 million settlement in the civil lawsuit filed against local leaders on behalf of Alton Sterling's five children, who lost their father in the 2016 police shooting that ignited protests and nationwide controversy.

The measure is slated to appear before the Metro Council during a virtual meeting Sept. 9 — though the item may be deferred to a later date to give residents the opportunity to offer comments live in-person. The public can currently weigh-in via email or through an online form. Councilwoman Chauna Banks first introduced the item in June and said it should be approved now to allow the next crop of council members to work under the interest of "healing and unity and racial conciliation." Until then, she said, the lawsuit will "hang over our city as a blood-stained banner."
quote:

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, who is up for re-election in November, wrote in a statement provided to The Advocate that she supports settling the case, arguing that Baton Rouge can't move forward with the lawsuit "lingering in the background." "We need to bring closure to this issue for the well-being of the entire community, including the Sterling family," the statement read.
What about the police officers killed in the line of Duty?

$1M per child, for a father who was in and out of prison and not involved in their lives. This includes $1M for the mini Alton that molested a child

If I were a black man with a terminal illness and kids....... I commit a crime and try and bait the cops into killing me. Set my family up for good.

Any white council members who don’t vote for it will immediately be labeled as racists.

That mayor is a piece of work, of course she supports it. St George has to be feeling like lottery winners right now

Try the case. No way they get more than that even IF they win. probably half. They're just scared of Baton Rouge burning if the trial goes in favor of the City-Parish.

Broome sounds like she’s getting a cut. Is she working on behalf of the plaintiffs or the defendants?

The city leaders want to pay it. Meaning the defendants are on the same side as the plaintiffs. I’m only surprised the settlement is not larger.

I dont give a shite about the criminal's family. Wheres the counter suit for the officers killed in the line of duty?

So lets say Elvin sterling's family gets 5M. The murdered officer's fam wins the counter suit against them 6M. Im good with that.

Did you know they want to take the money from a C-P reserve fund to settle a City of BR issue?
