No they don’t. There’s no reason for 12 drivers to have to switch lanes if they aren’t getting off at College.

No shite . . . I was referring to ones that ARE getting off at College. Obviously, you don't have to cross lanes if you aren't getting off the interstate.

A lot.

However, it is gonna be comical seeing all the people cry about how they missed the exit and they hate it.

Except now, everyone that wants to get off at college can do so and not hold the e tire interstate up trying to get over and find some way to skip the line

They can do all everything they can think of, but as long as the Mississippi River Bridge only has two lanes on each side, it will not fix anything.

That project is in the works; construction has not started yet. They are widening I10 from the split to hwy 415. How does everyone not understand this by now?

This is part of the MS River Bridge widening project.

ETA: That looking at the updated drawings (April 2023) it appears that the Washington St Exit will remain open but will only be accessible to those traveling eastbound across the bridge. It appears that there will be a barricade preventing I- 110 S traffic from utilizing the exit.

All it did was push the problem down to the people who have to get off at South Acadian. Which includes LSU students.

They should have just made it where college doesn't have an exit that goes north. Theres no good way to fix it. Its just too freaking close to a huge arse interchange.

And now the people coming down 12 have to smush from 3 lanes down to 2 because the retards at DOT didn't create enough space at the new spot where 12 goes under 10.

This entire screwup is just Louisiana retards on parade.

That was my question. So now I-12 is down to ONLY 2 Lanes for that stretch ???. Asinine ! No wonder large cities laugh at this place

Can someone explain to me one single positive this swap accomplished? Millions of dollars and years of construction and traffic is just as bad as ever.

There's good and bad, but first understand that it's not complete yet.

The idea was that because College gets so much traffic, both 12 and 10 needed direct access to it in a way that didn't have one or the other having to cross 4-5 lanes of traffic in a mile of high-density traffic just to get to it. Previously, those coming from 10 had to struggle to get over to College, causing extra problems (I've driven this corridor daily from 12 for over a decade now). It needed to be addressed as there continues to be LOTS of traffic going that route.

Once the switchover from 10 was done, it fricked those coming from 12 as they all had to cram around the new curve then do the exact same thing people on 10 had been bitching about doing. But that was only temporary as a direct route from 12 was always in the works and opened up last Wednesday.

Currently the route allows travel ONLY to College, but eventually it will add Acadian (the outside lane will be forced to College, the next lane will allow access to Acadian and back to 10).

This will help once they get the whole interchange done and people get used to it, but it has its own drawbacks. Specifically, narrowing 12 down to 2 lanes to join up with 10. 12 gets noticeably more traffic through most of the day, so removing a lane of merging is annoying (especially since slow-asses seem to love to ride next to each other through this new corridor). Also, where it joins 10 is a bit awkward, but this may be addressed by bringing back at least some semblance of a breakdown lane on the left once everything is done.

Longer-term, this is part of the addition of an extra lane in either direction from 10-12 to 415. I haven't looked over the most recent plans deeply in a while, but I hope it at least adds the onramp from College as its own lane all the way down to the Acadian exit (which would then allow the current outside lane between the two to be the extension to the 10/110).

You do realize that there will not be two lanes if this exit it closed? The pavement ends at the exit where you get off. There will be a crazy merge situation like there is now.

Maybe . . . But this is an EXPANSION project which implies additional lanes will be added.

I highly recommend y'all go check out the drawings and studies that this board loves to bitch about:

I10 Corridor

So wait...

#1: The plan is to pull Acadian over the RR tracks, with seven lanes? Or, if under, that narrow RR bridge will need to be rebuilt, right? With hopefully better drainage.

#2: The well-promoted "four through lanes" is only Westbound?

Hmmm

They’re widening the bridge too? Until another bridge is built this is lipstick on the pig

They can expand it all they want, but as long as the bridge has two lanes on each side and it goes back to two lanes after hwy 415 there will still be bottlenecking.

Like I said, the only solution is to create less traffic on the interstate (as it is currently). Anything other than that is a waste of money. They can rebuild a new.. new Mississippi river bridge, but traffic is already shite on the interstate by the hwy 415 exit. So their solution is to create a bottle neck right past it? The state is truly run by idiots. They do nothing to fix problems. Some would say they are the problem.

How do you not understand creating a bottleneck at a busy exit isn't the solution?

Yep, I didn’t even know they were making a direct exit for College on 12 until yesterday. I actually tried to take it but the vehicle behind me cut over and blocked my path and by that point I was already past it. It’s going to take some getting used to but seems like it will actually be for the best once everything starts opening up. For a while there, I thought they legit just swapped over the paths I-10 and I-12 took towards that merge and that was the point of my gripe lol.

Probably because it feels like 30 years have passed since they announced this project. They are working very slowly.

I'm not defending the project or saying it will work. I'm just pointing out that most of the complaints and suggested fixes are clearly addressed in the scope of work of the projects.
