So yall just decided to try to have a kid without knowing basic knowledge like this beforehand?

Who the frick looks up daycare costs and wait times before they're even expecting?

I mean, I knew it wasn't cheap, and I knew we'd have to get it all arranged ahead of time, but that was about the extent of it. I didn't need to know the details.

Careful. She might accuse you of following her around and attacking her for commenting on her shitty post.

Well... regardless of all the shite she's going through, of which I know personally isn't easy, that was a shitty post.

I made the mistake of adding up daycare thru private school thru LSU diploma and decided I was certifiable.

That money is still chugging out of my bank account and it ain’t coming back.

Years to go.

ETA: If it wasn’t for alcohol, I’d be in a padded room dribbling from my mouth and talking to myself.

*Note the weekend plans thread.

We did. But we also believe in personal responsibility and generally try to have an understanding what may be expected of us before making a unwavering commitment like creating life. I guess that sort of thing isn't for everyone.

Apparently a lot of people. I called to see if a place in Metairie had an opening and they said they had a 12 month wait list. I was trying to be a sarcastic dick when I said, "so you have kids on your waiting list that aren't even born yet?" In a serious tone she told me yes and that some parents get on the waiting list as soon as they find out they are pregnant.

Well, the mom is often home with the baby for 3 months before starting daycare. If they call the daycare as soon as they find out, that is 11-10 months prior to needing the kid in daycare.

Also, they have to deal with when there will be openings in the classes above infant. They have to meet certain ratios in every classroom so that causes a bottleneck.

Furthermore, the expecting parents with kids already in the daycare typically get priority in the waitlist over the newcomers.

It really isn't difficult to see how a waitlist can be 12+ months.

Sames. We are on several wait lists right now. Averages $800-$850/month for most centers.

Yup, you can take the baby out whenever you want, but you are paying for 51 weeks a year.

Well, that's not before they're even expecting is it?

Ours didn't go to daycare until he was 3 months old, and we were on it pretty quick after we knew he was coming... but we didn't do any tours or get any rates before my wife was even pregnant.
