Random insert.
Stinkys Fish Camp is awesome.
It's still got the stigma of a 'hotel' restaurant, but it is amazing.

I've heard this.

I haven't done traditional brunch in a bit. Been basically crawling hungover down the street to Superior on Sundays these days.

Hawks Nest needs to be added to the list. The double vodka tonics are potent and those twin waitresses were something to see after 5 drinks.

Now they can make a Bloody Mary.

Good people, but nothing to write home about on the food, imo. Plus, they've been having a lot of trouble keeping the kitchen open since the old man died. Really sad.

Hands down best brunch food value in Baton Rouge. And it's a buffet. But... Don't go if you want to get drunk. You won't have room

I have no money. When I do eat out, it's at places like the Chicken Shack or doing to-go boxes (by weight) from Kaminari or Thai Pepper. Hopefully, very soon, I will have money.

I'll never have money either but you redeemed yourself for the conspiracy thread. Love all three of these.

Anyone here try French Market Bistro on highland?

Had Sunday lunch there for Easter and it was pretty good.

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the filet mignon was as it had it all, the right flavors, seasoning and it was hotter than hot.

If you come to New Orleans, in addition to many great dishes, you'll find the most delicious & flavorful gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish ettouffee', maque choux, corn/crab/shrimp/crawfish bisque, blackened redfish with lump crabmeat, boiled crawfish, etc...because we know how make your tongue come alive from a dish that's not cooked by your mamma.

As someone who loves to cook, but never really had any cajun food, what are some places to start looking at with authentic, good recipes? I'm more interested in the gumbo, jambalaya, ettoufee, and those types of dishes. I know how to make a roux as well, if that helps any.

Had a boss make a big pot of gumbo for us at work one time, but he is from Texas. He also added the shrimp too early and it was rubbery, but the potential was there.

New Orleans is not Cajun either.
If you want real Cajun food go get a plate lunch at a small dive in Cajun country.
Poche bridge in the Breaux Bridge area.
Suire’s in Kaplan, LA and there are other great little places in Cajun Country.
