Most aren't worth anything, still. Some are worth a little, but not enough to warrant having them graded. Very few command good prices, and they need to be graded.

Ebay will give you a very good idea. My condolences on the wait if you send them off for a grade.

That depends on the card. There are some extremely valuable cards from the 80s.

Had a huge collection in the early 90s. Per Beckett they were worth like 4000 bucks. Took them to a shop to sell, was offered about 100 bucks.

Thank you, I’ll look into this.

Dealing with a lot of 50s and 60s Topps cards (not many PSA graded) so trying to figure out the best way to quickly figure out prices on these

PSA also has a database on their website where you can search for sales by PSA grade. The sales also have photos of the card sold and a list of the population of each card by grade.

Baby boomers are going into nursing homes, baseball cards are great way to protect assets.

They are not checking the value of baseball cards, the countable assets include checking and savings account balances, IRAs, CDs, stocks, and bonds. Your home, your car, personal belongings (baseball cards), or your savings for funeral expenses remain outside of countable assets

Buy 10 PSA graded cards for 10K each, that's $100,000 you are able to pass on to your children.

From the 80s?

Unless it's the first couple years of Jordan, not really.

I mean, sure - you can get like $20/30/40 for a Marino or Gwynn or Ripken rookie.

But non-Jordan 80s cards are likely not a gold mine.

Just for example, some of the Topps Tiffany sets have some valuable cards. Mark McGwire, Clemens, Bonds, Bo Jackson, Eric Davis, Puckett and quite a few more that are kinda valuable. Unopened sets sell for $3k+ on Ebay pretty regularly.

Of course, only 5,000 sets were made, so they are much rarer cards than most from that time period.

Olympic Cards from the 1992 Olympics have some somewhat valuable cards in them - Dream Team, Lance Armstrong, Oscar De La Hoya for example.

Some of the Shaq rookies have some value.

There are some good cards from that time frame, just most of them are basically worthless, and only the PSA 10s are really worth much.

Unopened 2001 Upper Deck SP Golf packs and boxes sell for a pretty good price. Close to $2k for a box of 24 packs. Everyone is looking for Tiger cards.

Every Jordan card that's in gem mint condition has some value.

We sent an order to PSA in December 2020. I haven't gotten my submission back. I'm thinking maybe early 2022. What sucks is that several of the cards I sent have lost significant value while sitting at PSA. Players regressed, new products came out, etc.

It was really good 8 months ago. Amount of product has started to catch up to demand. Still the strongest it has been since the crash in 97ish.

My only card that is worth crap is a graded tiger woods masters rookie. I think it's a 97. Don't even know the card manufacturer. It's was around 80 before he started fricking hookers and popping pills.

For vintage cards SGC is the preferred grading service. They are much cheaper than PSA. You can use a group submission like Boca Raton Submissions on Facebook and get cards graded in a two to three weeks for 20 to 25 a card.

Grade all Mantles, Aarons, Mayes, and HOF rookies. If you have anything else that you think would be particularly high grade (say 6 or above) consider grading those as well.

Anybody here actually pay attention to the baseball card market right now, or have any current experience in this particular topic? If anyone has a good pricing guide they use I'd appreciate some info. Don't know much about the current market, except that for some reason baseball cards have become pretty popular again. Trying to appraise a rather large card collection at the moment.

Beckett has as online monthly or yearly subscription guide, though their prices don’t necessarily line up with current market prices. You can google the specific card and PSA and check estimated prices online for free. Also check for comparable recent eBay sales and how it’s trended for several months.

Covid got a lot of people back into the hobby for sure. The buzz and prices were insane end of 2020 and very early 2021.

I personally only collect vintage cards (majority of mine are 1950’s and early 60’s). But I collect star rookies through the 70’s, 80’s, and up until Jeter. The prices are still holding strong.

As far as grading, SGC is very respected especially for vintage. They are much cheaper than PSA and have a quick 1-2 month turnaround time. PSA is still the standard but they’re a joke for prices and still super backlogged for a year plus.
