It's predatory because it preys on the weak and disenfranchised.
Russell Simmons, a black billionaire, got shite from all types of folks for his RUSH card, which was preying on poor black and brown folks.

So they what FUBU banks?
Maybe they can go ahead and let MC Hammer be their financial advisor too.

Are check cashing places and payday loan places considered mainstream financial institutions?

No offense but I would like to know how these banks stay in business unless they tack on an insane amount of fees with these accounts. People like Chuana bank with us and they bleed everything dry on the 1st and 3rd except for $1 to keep the account open for the following month.

Here's an idea.
Don't spend more than you make and pay your bills on time. It's really not that hard of a concept to understand.
Personal accountability would serve many of these weak and disenfranchised people rather well.

Thank God. Now maybe they won't clog up the Post Office window trying to get 9 money orders for the rent, phone, electric, water etc.

They really need to get over themselves, they mean very little the whole scheme of America.

my caddy's chauffeur informs me that a bank is where people put money that is not properly invested

Get good ole GC to start up a business. I heard he has ran several multi-million dollar ones.

struggling customers. For example, people with a history of writing bad checks are often denied the ability to open checking accounts. OneUnited Bank's U2 Checking Account offers a second chance.
Stellar idea.
We should let junkies who assure us they stopped used run pharmacies too.

What I don't get is if we as white people made these statements or hashtags, we are either racists, KKK, etc but because they are a minority it's completely ok. Gravy and his minions would go CRAZY if we did the EXACT same thing.

Our focus is to be unapologetically Black
That means providing some products that are uniquely suited to help financially struggling customers. For example, people with a history of writing bad checks are often denied the ability to open checking accounts. OneUnited Bank's U2 Checking Account offers a second chance.
How is a bank like this able to stay open and be profitable if their target clientele are people who are bad at managing their money and keep so little in their account, that they're bouncing checks. Doubtful that those types of people have any credit-worthiness for the bank to actually loan them money, so they must charge a hell of a lot of fees for those 2nd chance checking accounts.

Easier said than done. You don't know the ituations of some of these folks. Some don't make enough for emergency funds like the rest of us. Being poor has to suck because of the (seemingly) predatory life forces that you would be more subjected too:
Bad schools
Horrible landlords
Lack of transportation
Bad healthcare
Lack of reliable transportation
Etc.
Everything has to go right for them, and most of the time, it's hard to control all those things especially if you don't have money. I don't care how much "personal responsibility or accountability" you have; if you have an old shitty car, and it breaks down, and it's your means to work, good luck fixing it.
But hey, be more responsible.
Of course it would serve them right, but I think a lot more of them have it than this board suggests. I see it the families of the young people I mentor. They seemingly do everything right but just need a few breaks here and there

Segregation you say? Go for it.

If certain poor people didn't waste money on frivolous things like having 10 different pairs of $150+ sneakers, new rims, and the latest phones, maybe they would have money to fix their old shitty car and work to improve their healthcare plan, reliable transportation, bad landlords, etc

You are an excuse machine and must really think black people are incapable of making decent decisions
