I’ve been seeing more people install them in their garage.

Yeah, I have a little bit of an odd garage footprint and there is a nook area that one of those would fit in perfectly and not really impede anything.

Is it pretty soundproof? That'd be tight for a jam room

The DuPont one? Honestly, I've got no idea. The metal ones are not.

What happens when the house collapses over that entrance?

You wait. Happened last week to a guy near here. Tree fell on the cinderblock above ground shelter thing he had in his yard. Neighbors came along abd cut him out after a while.

Sure beats being crushed. When I build my next house I’m getting an estimate on a DuPont room. That piece of mind is worth it.

It's not going to be worth it unless you live in the Midwest or north MS and AL. Down in this part of Louisiana we rarely get EF3s, and well you can't exactly build em into the ground.

I've got family outside of OKC though, and their laundry room is practically a bomb shelter. Totally worth it there.

We get plenty of them in N. La. Coincidentally, this year is the 40th anniversary of the Bossier F4

Why does South Louisiana get the weaker tornadoes compared with North LA, and is there a cut off line for this?

That’s a great question Paul. Let me ask my personal meteorologists and get back with you on that

Tornadic storms are born from the clash of warm moist air from the gulf and cold dry air from the plains. S. La gets less of the latter.

Makes sense. So is Alexandria the cut off line for cold air from plains?

If you're referring to the in-ground one in the garage, most of them come with either a hydraulic lift system that will open with 12k-16k pounds on top of it or a winch which will slide the lid open with about the same weight on top.

They're usually well stocked with food and water, as well, so you can survive until you can be rescued, aren't they?
