The ones being discussed here are smaller, retro-fitted units. That said, yes, you can store supplies in them. I've seen one where the end bench in it is also a lockable storage box, which is nice. The bigger issue is that with these in-ground garage units, there are some who are concerned about what happens if the garage falls in on it or it begins flooding with water and you can't get out. No one has ever died in one from what I've read, though.
