My best friend of 40 years got sent to military school at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, GA when he was about 15. I think it’s called something else now. His dad was tired of his shite.

shite. Rural kids didn’t even have the option of military school, ffs. I don’t even know what happened.

If I had a dollar for every time I was threatened with Chamberlain-Hunt, I'd have never had to work.

It’s higher than that. It’s 73-74%. Thanks LBJ for destroying the fabric of this country.

Yeah my dad didn’t suffer fools either. If he called my name and I said anything other than yessir I would learn a lesson about respect.

You didn’t want to put your elbows on the table in my home either. That was bad manners.
It’s funny when we get older and reflect back on these things. My dad obviously didn’t like military school so he made my brother and I pay for it. LOL

My dad and his older brother were shipped off to Chamberline-Hunt Military in the mid-1930s when they were 14.

What was the Catholic Boarding school in or near NOLA that almost got wiped out by a hurricane (maybe in the 1960's or 1970's)? Seems that is where the men in my family were sent as military school would have been a walk in the park compared to it.

Yes, you aren't your kids friend.

In S Louisiana, and I guess much of the Gulf Coast, it was always Stanislaus.
Or NOA, New Orleans Academy in its day was a very good military school. I’m not even sure if it exists anymore.

I don’t wish hell on anyone, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he were there now.

I think kids started to say they came from St. Stanislaus just to act tough.
My old mans brother went there and there was no acting tough to him. He was funny and cool to me but in life and business he was not a man to be trifled with. My old man went to Mobile High in Mobile Alabama tho the family was in Mississippi, north of NOLA. Those men were a different breed. Born to live through Spanish Flu, Great Depression, Dust Bowl, 2 World Wars, and no telling how many "minor" things as well.

When I was young, parenting kids was good cop / bad cop
With a Scots Irish mom and a Sicilian dad I got bad cop / bad cop and the day was not complete unless I got a beating from at least one of them. By todays standards they both would be in jail and I probably would been a very bad man. I got the bonus of being Catholic and learning the very real feeling of what God's anger was like.
Except that was no ruler but a strong and stiff piece of hickory with a black pointer on the end. None of you are probably old enough to remember anything like this, but I do.

L. T. I. = Louisiana Training Institute for boys. A reform school. Monroe, LA.
In the old gym lobby there were life sized portraits of Joe Labruzzo and Art Cantrelle, both who played there. The school was officially Southside High School
In the late 60s about 70% of those kids were simply orphaned and had nowhere else to go. The gates were open and few would ever run away.
By the 80s it became hell and was more like a prison, which it actually was.

I’m curious if anyone can relate.
Back in the day the Sicilian side of my roots were NYC. The old neighborhood was pretty much exclusive to Sicilian Catholic and Russian Jew except 1 family who was neither. They had kids and one of their kids was on the "do not date" list of those matriarchs. They got in serious trouble for something before they were 16 and got sent to a military school in the area where all the high level mob boss kids went to school. They got in trouble there and some big scandal in their Junior or Senior year.
They avoided military service with something called bone spurs and would go on to become the highest military leader in the USA.
