My wife and I each went through a baby book and wrote down our favorite boys and girls names and went from there. We were having triplets though so we had to pick a top 3 for each sex - a little different than your scenario

Just keep in mind what most parents forget - nobody is going to give you a creativity award for your baby's name. We didn't want to name our kids Mike or Kristen or anything super common but also didn't want to call them Bison and Shoogar or something retarded. There are plenty of options out there. Just be smart about it

Congrats

My friend's cousin's dentist's husband's daughter is a teacher and she has kids in her class named la-a, lawasha, ladrya, orangjello and lemonjello. I swear it's true because they told me and they wouldn't lie.

Ok....Nevaeh

Still....every child I've cared for with that name.....messed up parents. It's the go to white trash, ghetto name right now.

See this is the misconception, today the common names are the dumb ones. So you can name your kid something that was common 20 years ago, and its unique today. We named our son a name that was in the top 10 list for every decade of the 1900's, got to the 2000's and it dropped out. Perfect!

While we're on the topic of baby names, what does the OT think of Preston?

That was my granddad's name and it's obviously from a previous generation..I know literally zero people named preston since he passed away. I can't tell if it'd be a good name for a child born in the next 10 years, or if it'd be looked at the same way as like an Ethel or Mable (TOO old school).

Someone should seriously consider naming their kid Sharknado.

How did you go about picking your kids names, and did you feel it was free reign to be creative, child's feelings be damned?

I named my son after the sheriff on the Rifleman. "Micah" I liked the name and knew in 1962 (I was 14 yo) that if I ever had a son, that would be his name.

hate it

...but that is probably because I had a neighbor kid named Preston growing up that was a deaf-mute and he tried to set our house on fire, so I might be a bit biased

I've got twins. My dad wanted me to name one Wes Monroe if we had a boy. I wanted to name one Beaux. Luckily, they're both girls. We gave them family names. I thought with the current trend that traditional names would actually be unique.

I like old school but not super-common names. I tend to think a boy's name should sound like it could belong to a president or a civil war general.
