The name needs to have a meaning and not that you think it sounds cool.
not all "classic" names have a meaning when parents bestow them on their children. Sometimes the clasic name is what the parents just thinks is cool. Use a fmily name if you want it to have meaning. it is possible to name your son something you think sounds cool without naming him LaBlackatron.

How about Ruth? I think my wife likes that name, but I think it sounds butch.
i can't do names that make me think of something INSTANTLY. with ruth i think of Babr ruth/Baby ruth.
I like the names Charlotte and Nora for girls.

By classic name I meant family name

Charlotte is on our list if we have another girl

I'm ecstatic that we are having a boy, but it seems like a girl would be more fun to find a name for.

I have one of each so it doesn't really matter from here on out

We were thinking of Naomie for a girl, that's a solid biracial name.

Frances is at the top of my list for a boy or girl

Frankly (hah!), no boy should go by the name of Frances. If you're going to go this route go whole hog - Francesco.
I don't love it as a girl name either, although I have liked every Frances I have ever met (two).

tend to think a boy's name should sound like it could belong to a president or a civil war general.

I know a couple that named their baby girl Ruby. I like it. Haven't heard that name in a while.

We named our daughter Shea. It's not very common, but not a name that was made up or unheard of. We have a longer last night so we wanted a short first name for her.
The only thing I don't like about it is that people mispronounce it sometimes...they will say She-uh.
