Yep, then you have the fights between the boyfriend and babys dad. Grandparents telling the doctor and nurses how to take care of them because they raised upteen babies themselves. I could go on and on.

all more the reason I want to increase funding for Planned Parenthood. More education and more access to contraception. Give them all IUDs.

The department also oversees child support enforcement cases. About $1.6 billion in child support is owed in Louisiana — some of those cases date back 30 years, said Lisa Andry, the department’s child support enforcement director.

Well it seems like these people have been doing a shitty job for a long time.
As a teacher, I am a mandatory reporter of possible child abuse. I can tell y'all that this department does not do their jobs. It has nothing to do with funding. they didn't do their jobs when they had all of the funding in the world.

Another reason we have a state budget deficit of over $2B next year.

I would venture to say that many of these newborns are treated in State facilities.

WTF... waste of money. They wouldn't use them as more babies = more monthly $$$.

Looks like they've made a correction to the story:

Editor's note: This story was changed on Feb. 18, 2016, to correct the amount of the state budget shortfall and the number of babies born in Louisiana with drug dependency due to their mothers’ drug abuse.

I've always wondered what if you gave a person doses of a highly addictive drug, but they didn't know that you were.

Either snuck it in different food or drinks, told them it was some sort of other medicine and even gave it to them while asleep.

Would they become addicted but not know what the heck they were addicted to?

This sounds like a trashy problem. I'm not worried.

My stepmom made my dad foster some babies like that until they got placed. He ended up giving them back after a few days because they never stop crying and barely ever sleep. If they're awake, they are crying

We have a methadone clinic in cenla and a lot of them are due to that. Not that suboxone is so available, I'm sure that plays a part in it too. Sad when the mom would rather the babe have to DT after being born than do it them selves.

Thanks for this. It looks like the number was changed to 1,330. Much more believable (but a 2-fold increase nonetheless).

CPS takes kids away is what I'm getting at. If they don't, the kids cry all of the time and are likely to be neglected. It's a shitty deal, but hopefully more of them can be taken away or a program can be put in place for maternal drug testing after conception
