A church van packed with children was headed to Walt Disney World when it got caught in a fiery pileup involving two 18-wheelers.

Seven people, including five of the youngsters, died in the crash. On Friday, investigators tried to determine what triggered the accident, which happened outside Gainesville in clear weather on a straight, flat stretch of Interstate 75, a busy highway that connects Florida to the rest of the South. Two vehicles traveling north — a tractor-trailer and a car — smashed into each other and then burst through a metal guardrail, slamming into another semitrailer and the southbound van carrying the children.

Diesel fuel leaked, and the mass erupted into a fireball, the Florida Highway Patrol said. A fifth car, unable to avoid the chaos, sped through and hit people who were thrown from the van, the highway patrol said. Five of the children from a Pentecostal church in Marksville, Louisiana, and the two truck drivers died. At least eight others were injured, some seriously.

Awful news. I knew it was a big deal yesterday, but wow. Thoughts and prayers to everyone involved. If anyone on here knew anyone in that crash, we're here for you.

I drove by it going Northbound just a little bit ago and that won't be cleaned up for days.

I know I don't get serious on here often, but this one hurts. I don't know if texting was involved -- but I just hope everyone stays safe out there.

It doesn’t appear that the van driver was killed or any adults that were in the van were killed. I can’t imagine how sick they must feel for the kids that were in there.

Was reading about this earlier and it doesn't appear that the children were restrained properly. I believe they were all ejected after the van flipped several times

Prayers for the affected families and their community.

Google "15 passenger van fatalities" Brother Elijah shouldn't be driving one unless he is experienced. This happens way too often.

I can’t even imagine. Truly heartbreaking to hear especially with little kids involved.

I mentioned this in the other thread about this of how this reminded me of Depeche Mode's song Blasphemous Rumors.

The song is about a 16 year old girl, who is trying to commit suicide, but doesn't succeed,
quote:

Girl of sixteen
Whole life ahead of her
Slashed her wrists
Bored with life
Didn't succeed
Thank the Lord For small mercies

then her family has prayed about how she was essentially saved,
quote:

She (her mom) takes the blame
It's always the same
She goes down on her knees
And prays

Becomes religious, then at 18 she is killed in a car wreck.

quote:

Girl of eighteen
Fell in love with everything
Found new life in Jesus Christ
Hit by a car
Ended up
On a life support machine
Summer's day
As she passed away
Birds were singing
In the summer's sky
Then came the rain
And once again
A tear fell
From her mother's eye

The early story is the van was just a bystander casualty of a semi hitting a car and barreling through the guardrail. But by all means post your dumb shite.
