Do you plan on breast feeding?

Exactly.

Extoll the benefits of breast feeding and research it as much as she does. Support her through the tough parts of feeding. Nothing better than the baby crying and you still can't lactate, so you get to sleep.

The trade off? Shitty diapers. Gotta be a man and step up and change shitty diapers. Thats what you have to prepare for.

There were two weeks there EARLY on where only I could put him back to sleep with the way I held him and patted his back. It was pretty cool, but I was glad it only lasted a couple weeks.

As I typed this I just got done yelling at my son. He is now 7. Thats what you need to prepare yourself for. Sometimes you have to be a dickhead. Not beat your kids or shite like that, but raise your voice a tad and let him know you are serious about whatever the hell is going on.

Gotta be prepared to be an arse to the one you love most. Otherwise you'll be an old man one day and he will be going through your wallet for meth money.

love in a thread for "awesome" dads, we've got a bunch of people in here talking about not getting up in the middle of the night. You may not be able to breastfeed your child, but you can change the baby's diaper, rock them back to sleep after they're done eating, get your wife some water etc. There's no reason that should only be the mom's responsibility. I laughed at that as well.

My wife and I had a system. She went to bed around 9 or 10 and I stayed up late and did the 11pm feeding. She would then do the 2am feeding. I did the 5am.

This was for the first few months until my daughter was able to sleep thru the night

Start saving for Travel Ball now so you don't have to stand holding a sign to pick up money at interections later.

Do nothing. When it gets here don't spoil the baby by picking it up every time it squeaks, especially when it is supposed to be sleeping all night. And, don't let it sleep in the same bed as momma. There you have it!

Are people really defending microwaving milk? That is a big no no. We would heat up a glass of water and put bottle of milk in there but never heat up the milk.

I was even more of a night owl, then, this is what we did for our sons. I was wide awake for hours, we fed earlier than 11:00. But I was still awake while she slept and I took care of any crying. When it was 2:00 or so, she would get up, I'd stay up until she'd fed them, then we'd both go to bed, but she wouldn't go back to a heavy sleep. Worked great for us.
