Don't worry about sleep....learn the definition of patience.

It doesn't matter. It's just sleep, you'll learn to live with less of it.

Not much you can do for the first few months unless you have a set of tits.

Your job at that point will be to support your wife.

There's no plan for that. Just be sure to listen to her.

Going to give the baby wise thing m

I can't speak more highly of this movement. My 9 month old has been going to sleep at 6pm until 5:30am for six months now. My wife did the same thing for our 4 1/2 year old and the same results. The first couple of months for both of them were miserable (sleep wise), but after it took at 3 months you're home free. We plan our evenings around the baby sleeping by 6:30pm.

BabyWise is the shite.

I was lucky with my boy. He would stay awake 12 hours and sleep 12 hours on the most part. Totally different than the pain in the arse daughters.

Sleep training is the key to living a normal life while having young children. Did it with my 2 and 4 year old.

Get plenty of sleep now. Your wife should do the same. When the time comes, pour your time and patience over both your wife and child. If being a dad was easy, more guys would do it. Get her a breast pump and put the little one to bed full. That will buy you some sleep time. Your insurance will confer the cost of the breast pump.

Just remember during those first few weeks that it gets better. My son is going on 18 months and has been sleeping all night for about a year. Kind of miss those overnight rocking sessions sometimes. Sleep is great though.

The milk can be microwaved in a paper cup

No it cannot. Never microwave breastmilk or formula as it doesn't heat up evenly. It can burn the baby's mouth. Also...microwaving breastmilk will destroy some of the nutrients in breastmilk.

Seriously NEVER microwave breastmilk.

In the NICU we always used a bottle warmer. Or...you can take some really hot water in a cup and stick the closed bottle of milk into the cup of water for a few minutes.

Maybe you're not smart enough to be raising a child

I don't think our kids wanted formula until they were at least a few months old. From what I remember all they wanted was the tit. But what do I know, they are 10 and 13 now and I'm getting old. My memory isn't as good as yours.

Don't read the internet, don't look to it for guidance. It is 100% bullshite.

Secondly, don't have an expectation for when the baby is "supposed" to sleep through the night.

"Oh he'll sleep through the night after a couple months"

"Oh, at six months he'll be sleeping"

"Oh, at 12 months he'll be sleeling"

"Oh, at 18 months he'll be sleeping"

"Oh at 2 years old he'll be sleeping"

Don't believe the pediatricians either. Trust your instinct.

Also make sure mommy knows, before the birth, that you also have instincts. Your instincts need to be respected every bit as much as her instincts. It's an odd conversation to have right now, because the instincts I'm speaking of are probably not aware to you right now. We have such a mommy-centric society that dad-instincts are social media sideshow fodder.

I could go on and on for pages.

I'm just gonna stop now.

I can lend you my youngest for good practice. I have to warn you however. He has mastered the art of the exploding diaper.
