right be SE MI is the most diverse part of the state. look at the northern 2/3 of the state. that's basically >95% white and still pretty bad. I just think that's interesting compared to the rest of the rural/white areas of other midwestern states.

like someone else said, this shows that state policies have a pretty big influence. far more significant that I would have assumed.

Yeah, I’ve always mentally grouped Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota as very similar states and looking at that map is rough for Michigan

How does the US national avg compare to that of other developed countries?

The map is a little vague in the shades being defined, but it looks like only two parishes in Louisiana (hello, St. Helena) are as bad as your description.
