If autonomous cars are powered by their own sources, it will be exactly how it is today. You're still thinking way too conventionally. Why would traffic lights even be necessary if the cars are networked together and are independently powered.
One of the biggest mistakes people make when they project out the future is they impose today's conventional limitations on technology that will have burst beyond what we know about how traffic works today.

You're very naive. I'm in the legal field and we are bracing for it big time.
Its coming.
Within 20 years they will ubiquitous. Within 50 you won't even be able to drive yourself anymore except in very limited circumstances. It will happen.

That's funny. Do you hold Consumer Reports in high regard? Remember when they jizzed their pants over the Model S and it "broke their rating scale"? Well, guess what? Now that reality has set it, they can't recommend it because of reliability issues.
