re: Autozone vs Napa vs Carquest

Depends on what I’m buying. I have better luck with Napa on electrical components, and I think their brake pads are superior to what you get from the others. I hit ORilleys for most stuff, alternators, batteries, master cylinders, wheel bearings, seals, etc.
Pretty much avoid AZ unless it’s just convenient and I’m buying oil for a change, bulbs/headlights, brake fluid, air filters, stuff where quality won’t really vary, and they have no chance to give me the wrong shite.

Napa is my go to for most stuff, their premium brakes are fan frickin tastic and the people generally know what the heck they are doing. I despise Autozone and will only go there as a last resort. Other stuff is a toss up between Advance and Oreilly’s. Pep Boys is out of the way but they have really good deals on Bosch AGM batteries from time to time.

I buy all my parts from Rock Auto, frick having to answer 23 questions from a 17 year old at Autozone, if I need it right away I go to my local NAPA.

All around here pretty much seem the same to me, other than coloring (of the store, not the patrons)

Rockauto.com if it can wait
Advance has good deals online and can pick up in store. Also, they loan tools free with deposit
NAPA has some better quality
O'Reilly isn't bad
Autozone, line full of people if you go wrong time with maybe one register open. Been that way since I worked there in high school

FWIW, Wally World has good oil and the cheapest prices around

1. Advance/Carquest (would've just been Carquest but since advance bought them they went from O'Reilly level to Carquest level. Basically a hybrid now)

Yup. Used to be the Sears diehard platinum which were rebadged Odessey batteries but now it's the Pep Boys Bosch for the cheapest AGM Batts.
....and NAPA top of the line or or Wagner Thermoquiet brake pads that you can get at Advance or Car quest.
WallyWallyWally World for Mobil1 oil.
Fram Ultra Synthetic or Japanese OEM for oil filters

Purolator or WIX
Most of the FRAMS have glued end caps.

I’ll have to check. I pick my oil by the smell, so if they don’t keep Valvoline in the viscosity I want, I keep looking.

You're right about that and WIXs are really good filters although Purolators are mostly crap, but the high-end Fram Ultra synthetic is a completely different animal. I don't think Fram actually makes it, I think they contract it out. In the tests that I've seen it's by far the best oil filter, in a class with I think two others but that class is far above everything else.
I'm on my phone but I'll see if I can pull up one of the tests that I remember.

Avoid Autozone. They by far have the worst parts of all of the parts stores you listed. Ask any real auto mechanic and they would probably agree.
