Pulled the AutoCheck on one of my vehicles yesterday and it has an accident reported with the airbags deployed. OK, that’s correct, but in the details it says, “Right side impact with a train (case #...)”

WTF? It was a deer, front and drivers side. That’s a pretty big difference. A fricking train?

I’ve had to correct these for clients sometimes. Send them a copy of the accident report and ask them to change it.

Accident reports are a PITA to get, mail a check to the police precinct and WAIT...can’t I just send a picture of the obvious antler dent in the hood?

Good luck. We had a tire blowout that caused wire harness damage. Single car incident.

The CarFax report stated collision with structural damage not repaired because the body shop didn’t report frame repair.

How can I report frame repair when there was no damage to the fricking frame? Car fax is a scam and a racket and notice there is no phone number listed to call and speak with someone

We did that. They didn’t change shite. We sent them the full, entire body shop AND insurance receipt, they didn’t change shite.

It finally took a letter from the police chief stating there was no structural damage, no collision, and only one car involved for them to remove structural damage and collision report.

Car fax is a scam
I tell customers this story all the time: We repaired a Toyota Tundra to the tune of $15k+. 5 or 6 years later, the owner came in for some warranty work (lifetime warranty). I ran a carfax to make sure the vehicle hadn't been in any other wrecks. There was no record of any wrecks/repairs on the report, not even the repair we performed.

I HATE when another entity irresponsibility screws something up that is related to me, and I have to spend my own time and/or money to fix it. It seems to be happening more and more recently, especially with billing.

Good luck. I once had a car fax report that showed a completely fabricated wreck that occurred in a state in which I didn't live. That company sucks major balls.

Who wants to buy a car that’s been hit by a TRAIN? That’s about the worst thing they could have written.

CARFAX can suck my balls. I’ve had one accident in my truck and they listed it as “major damage”. All the body shop did was change sheet metal. The truck was able to be driven after the accident. It also lists damage to rear of truck years later. I’ve only had the one accident. They are terrible.

Possibly Mrs Gaston has been impacted by a train?

LSS... dealers use CarFax to evaluate trade-ins. I was trading in a BMW X5 and dealer was really lowballing me. Finally got him to tell me that CarFax reported a major rear-end collision with frame damage. Luckily, I had the accident report for a fender bender and insurance claim in the glove box. $800 repair for bumper apron paint and a backup sensor.

CarFax is a bigger scam than the Credit Bureaus!

CarFax gets most of their info from insurance companies. Probably from an insurance fraud scam.

If only Snopes would open a fact check of autocheck

Then you would need a tri-level check

Yeah, if you want a second accident reported. How would Carfax verify that pic? Accident report is the way to go.

Carfax is just another bullshite excuse dealerships have to screw you on your trade in. Basically the salesman's job is to screw you as much as possible on every part of the deal and of course do it with a big smile on his face. We've arrived at a fair valuation on your trade based on KBB or NADA value? Oh hang on, let me go get the car fax and use that to extort more money out of you on this deal! Such horseshite. Dealerships have been eating well over the last few months but I think those days are behind us and they will struggle over the next year. I also believe there will be a high number of repossessions over the next year so there will be good deals to get on those.

Yes and no. People who don't make their payments, don't do maintenance or take care of them, either.

there are class actions brewing against both. the dealer community has been getting railroaded by these people for close to a decade.
perfectly good cars go to an auction, some $8/hr clerk pushed the wrong button in the inspection report or misinterprets a factory weld on the unibody and marks the car as 'salvage'.
the value just dropped 50% and it's an act of God to get that stuff fixed.
no bueno. given the car has been wrecked, I wouldn't go through much trouble to change happy to glad.

Take an hour out of your day and get an independent bid or 2 or 3 for your car BEFORE you go shopping. Carmax, Carvana, Autotrader, Givemethevin.com , etc.
Control the bidding for your vehicle that way then go armed with that info. Use the internet to find somewhere where the car you want is advertised cheap, that will give you some indication of the bottom for the new one.

They will fix it. My dad’s car had an airbag deployment on the Carfax. It was a minor wreck that nobody was towed. We submitted the wreck report from LSP to Carfax and they fixed it.
