Just saw that 500 million animals (not counting insects) have died so far and koala bears will be functionally extinct when this is over
How did this happen? Looks awful.
My earth muffin friends on FB are politicizing the hell out of it, so I came here to get legit answers

Isn’t getting a ton of coverage.
The fact that it is basically destroying koala bears should be enough for environmentalists and PETA outcry, instead we get climate change and 3 min long chained up dog commercials

Hundreds of koalas are feared to have died in an Australian bushfire, animal rescuers say.
The blaze burnt through 2,000 hectares of bush containing a prime koala breeding ground in New South Wales, around 250 miles north of Sydney.

I’ve read about 30% of the koalas feared dead.

That’s because an autistic teenager from Sweden is more important

Damn that’s sad for all the animals dying in the fires.

shite happens. Humans get way too emotionally invested in trying to preserve a species. Natural disasters have killed off thousands of species over millions of years. It’s just part of the cycle.
Animals like Koalas are hard to keep from extinction. They don’t breed at a high rate and require a very specific habitat that doesn’t exist in most of the world

It’s awful yet uneducated people want to think climate change is fake.

Unless the planet is warming up to 450+ degrees, the Earth's ambient temperature didnt start these fires.

Might want to check your media consumption if you haven't heard about this.
Their PM has been under serious fire (no pun intended) for his actions.
Also, what China is doing to Australia is something that the US should pay attention to.

Yeah it's crazy how 99% of the scientific community is in agreement on climate change except for the petroleum engineers writing papers for Exxon. But I'm sure you know better.

That article specifically addresses the northern hemisphere. Do you have something that’s relevant to this discussion?

They actually are as well. XOM is under no obligation to release that info though.

Because it's symptomatic of the entire planet, sweetie.

Severe drought and environmental nuts not allowing proper backburning by the rural fire services.
Helped fight one to save a friend’s house back in 2003 near Nowra, NSW. Those damn eucalyptus trees are like napalm. It doesn’t take much for an Aussie bushfire to jump.
We’ve been following the situation online and watching ABC on YouTube to keep track of the situation where my in-laws live.
