Has Austin natively created a tech company as big as Waitr (founded in Lake Charles, LA)?

Only one of the largest tech hardware manufacturers on planet earth with a current market cap pushing eighty billion.

Lol. Waitr?

Not really what I asked.

Also, the implication was during this "boom," but I suppose I'll take the time now to make it more explicit.

It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity.

This is exactly right. As a % maybe a slight increase given the big losses of the past.

There’s homeless everywhere. I mean, there’s homeless in Alexandria.

The property taxes in Travis, Williamson and Hays counties are out of control. Some homeowners pay in excess of $1,000 a month in just property taxes alone.

Is that supposed to be a lot? I pay about that in Louisiana on top of state income taxes.

The bay area will always be the main tech hub as long as stanford and Sand Hill Road exists.

FIFY.

Any public U would have a hard time matching the cosy relationship between private school Stanford and the VC community, very socialist and extra-bureaucratic UT has an even harder time. ATM has arguably done a better job of tech transfer to private entities in recent years, and they will tell you straight up that they copied what UT wanted to do in the days of Dr Kozmetzsky.

For those who don't know, the Sand Hill Road VC community is literally across the street from the Stanford Campus.

Still, quantity has a quality all its own, and UT combined with ATM pumps out a lot of top tier technical people. There was a point in the 2000's when every Fortune 500 company that had entered the list in the past 50 years was founded in either the Bay Area, Austin or Boston. Austin is far from drying up and blowing away.

Austin is incredible. By all means, people should stop moving here.

Yeah there are some libs and some homeless but after awhile, both are easy to ignore and you're left with great culture, restaurants, and all the awesomeness that surrounds it.
