Will be staying JW Marriott downtown.

I've posted about this before, but now it's time to focus.

42 years old with Mrs. Alum. All I recall is 6th Street. Lat time I went I was single and 23 years old. So 6th street was right in the wheelhouse. I also went once for a SXSW in 2000, but that's a different animal.

Looking for nice dignified places. "Shouldn't miss" places. Nice food nice "clean well lighted places" for an old man to drink. Not power drink keg beer with college kids on 6th.

Thanks in advance.

IB4 . Have secks in room and PIIHB

Rainey Street was fun. Kinda got crowded in the weekend, but it was def better than 6th street to me. Also check out South Congress. Food trucks everywhere. Ms P's electric cock was some of the best fried chicken I've ever eaten and Burro grilled cheese is a pretty good grilled cheese with a twist.

The two best places I ate in Austin were Franklin's and Laundrette.

Franklin's is absolutely worth the wait. Go early, bring a chair (if possible) and a beer and relax. The brisket is the best I've ever had.

Laundrette is a really good brunch place, but a bit removed from downtown. Pastries there are fantastic.

Screw the downtown area, it sucks. Get out by the lake.
Steiner Ranch Steak House is pretty nice. It's a touch upscale and they usually have a live band out on the patio on weekends. Great view overlooking the lake.

My favorite hangout now is Sundancer Grill located near one of the marinas in Lakeway.

If you come after April, Ski Shores is a must. It's outdoors and sits on Lake Austin. Great burgers and a great place to relax and have a beer or 2. They close during the winter on don't reopen until April, I'm anxiously awaiting.

If you get outside of town a bit, there's a place called the Gnarly Gar. It's by far one of the best lake bars I've ever been to during the summer. On a Saturday evening, it will be stacked full of some beautiful boats that cost more than most peoples homes.

I'll piggy back off of this thread

A group of use are looking to go to Austin for a long weekend (married 30somethings)

I've always stayed around south Congress, but I'm finding a lot of cool houses on airbnb in east Austin around Cesar Chevaz. Is that the new area for Austin? How are the restaurants/bars in that area?

I don't mind hipsters, so I don't care if its the new hipster area.

I do mind getting murdered though.

Disagree. Stiles Switch is almost as good and there's no wait. The only reason to eat at Franklin's is to say you did.

Got one in Katy.

Not the original of course, but I get the gist.

It is the new hipster area. The scary element all mostly moved out to Pflugerville when their landlords cashed in on rising property values while avoiding the rising property taxes by selling to developers. There's pretty much no crime in Austin. You won't get murdered.

Launderette is good

I'd recdomend using this list and picking out a few spots. You won't be mistaken with anything on this list

LINK

As for the east side ... They have gentrified EVERYTHING in Austin so you're fine

Some good recommendations on the east side for food are jacobys and sawyer & co

As for bars on the east side .. Midway field house, craftsman, volstead

It's also (well, the bar is) THE headquarters of the suburban Austin swingers scene... if that's your thing.

I do not recall Blind Pig. I know Maggie Mae's is still there. They've been there so long that they threw me out after carding me once.
