Anywhere outside 99 here in Houston is a no go.

They could have made the call today instead of on Friday morning.
No, the earlier the better. Teachers, subs, parents and kids shouldn't have to wait until nearly noon today (Sealy ISD just canceled) to figure out if they were going to have to into work, find alternative child care, etc. And you, in Sugarland, full of Asians that already can't drive, want them all out in force on slick roads that are likely going to ice over tonight?

No ice at all and we aren't going to have any.
Alittle bit west and to the north is a different story.

Congratulations, you just described a distance that's about 70 miles of 99 (Spring to Sugarland taking 99). You realize that people that don't live here don't understand that it takes an hour to drive from one side of Houston to the other with zero traffic and perfect weather it is so big. And Katy is fine.

This isn’t Reddit and I just saw a video of a truck stuck on a ramp in “Katy”!

I have used this in the past.
https://drivetexas.org/
It relies on official reporting and TxDOT verification which may not always be timely or available for every section of a hwy when you need it quickly especially when weather related. It does include an option to turn on traffic and include google crowdsource data along with the verified by TxDOT information to have an idea on planning a drive or a route.

DriveTexas displays conditions for roadways on the TxDOT-maintained system, including Interstates, US Highways, State Highways, and Farm- (FM) and Ranch- (RM) to- Market roadways. To inquire about non-state maintained roadways please contact the city or county that maintains it.
… I don't see snow/ice or flooding conditions on the legend?
The legend only shows conditions that are currently being reported. If flood, snow/ice, etc. conditions are not reported they will not be displayed on the legend.
… What does the red-and-white dashed line mean when the Traffic toggle is turned on?
The red-and-white dashed lines are not TxDOT data, but part of the Google Maps traffic overlay. The red-and-white lines indicate where a road closure has been reported by crowdsourcing via Google. This information has not been verified by TxDOT personnel.

You sure post like it is.
Of course every overpass or flyover in the city is a shitshow. I'm talking about the surface streets where the entire population of the Katy lives. You can make choices to drive on Westheimer (surface street) 30 miles into downtown, or you can try your luck on Westpark or I-10 (elevated). Hm, I wonder which I'd choose.

Texas has a drive safe texas app
I looked for an official app like this developed by the state and didn’t find one. Is “Drive Safe Texas” the official name of the app?

OP is driving from Austin, not downtown Houston.

Stop in Carmine and buy a birdhouse from Burt.

Overpasses are messing a lot of folk up on 290. Lots of crashes.

I live 30 miles west of Austin, no way I’d be on any highway today! But I’m old.

They used to make it in a covered wagon with no app.
