That’s 4,000 a year per resident in Austin for police. I’m pretty sure that I don’t need 4,000 a year of policing. Hell, every time I deal with a cop, I usually have to pay. They like giving me driving awards. Slow down a&$hole!!!

Blessed to live in Round Rock, Williamson County, TX. Gods country. A few miles north of weird. We aren't cutting any funding for law enforcement. Don't break the law in Wilco.
The Austin folks will get what they wanted by voting in that crazy city council. The council let the homeless live anywhere. The council is making Austin a sanctuary city. Now they are reducing funding to the police.
Liberals get what they deserve with their BS policies.

Everyone complaining in this thread does realize almost every public department in the country is heading towards budget cuts because of corona. The math doesn’t add up after shutting down the country. You’ll see cuts in all public services including education soon.
quote:
The Austin City Council's decision will divide the cuts into separate reinvestments
Then why are they putting that money into other programs instead of completely removing the money from the budget?
This isn't a complete cut. It's a reallocation of funds.

I mean, after seeing all the police brutality videos coming out of Austin, this makes total sense.

the williamson county sheriff will take you to jail for running a yellow light gtfo with that shite

It's 3% of the total budget. It's nearly 35% of the police budget. So yes it is significant.

Sheriff Chody doesn't mess around, but its not as bad as you say.
I've lived in Round Rock 15 years. Don't break the law and there wont be a problem. Homeless cant pan handle up here. Homeless can't camp and shite anywhere they want up here. Wilco has its issues but they don't compare the whats going on in Travis county.
Do you support all the moves Austin has made recently to become a leading progressive hot spot? I don't.

The majority of Austin is probably fine with this

Between the Homeless and now this shite the ACC is doing everything in its power to ruin a once really great city.
This place is a frickin shell of what I moved to 15 years ago. I’ll be out in 2 years no doubt in my mind.
The idea of cutting police force with an avg 150 new people a day moving here is not a legit plan. Plus with Mayor Adler and Gov Abbott this place is gonna be a complete shithole in 5 years.

Lol this is Austin not Louisiana.
Homelessness is a problem here but I honestly don’t know the solution. Housing costs are very high in Austin proper relative to wages.
Other than that, the city is beautiful and booming. It’s one of the safest cities of its size in all of America. I’ve never felt unsafe walking around even on the east side.

“Cops are out of control they need to be trained better! Let’s defund them so they have less money to train people”
Seems like great logic to me.

Just continuing to hand them barrels of cash for poorly trained officers doesn’t seem logical either

Weird you assume all officers are poorly trained.
Now do education.

Didn’t they also put Greg Kelley in jail?

I’m going off his logic. Never said they were all poorly trained, but if the city is dissatisfied with how they are trained and perform then continuing to do the same thing doesn’t make sense either

I’m all for education reform

Disappointed to see Texas letting Austin go down this path, it's a shame.
