Its like my token black friend. He had a PHD (remember token), is atheist and a teetotler. He required all of those in his spouse, do you know how few atheist black teetotaling woman there are? Let alone with an advanced degree. BTW - he did get married to a lovely woman, who meets all of those.

I don't plan on getting married until 29-30, (24 now). Don't plan on having kids until then or maybe even later depending on how old my wife is. My brother is 29 with 3 kids and his life is gone. Never got to experience life with his wife before knocking her up. Sounds miserable...

New Orleans (and the South in general) is hung up on getting married in your early 20s. I just turned 26, and it's literally every other week I see a guy that I graduated high school with is engaged. Getting married before 30 sort of limits yourself. I knew of some married guys who were my age that passed up some career opportunities because they didn't want to leave their wives for extended periods of time. Some of my friends are married/engaged and are practically old men now.

Go to NYC, Washington DC or California and you won't find many chicks who are under 30 and married.

Read The Awakening by Kate Chopin. That's why.

Aside from that, there's the eternal youth angle. It's the reason people like Sarah Silverman still dress like 20 year old college girls, even into their 40s. Husbands and kids are things that old ladies have, or boring housewives. Those things tie a woman down in far more profound ways than they do men. Once she has kids, that's it. She's done until they leave the house, unless she can pull a Wendy Davis and dump them off on someone, which isn't likely.

I know a lot of women like this. They just want to travel and be young girls for as long as they can get away with it. I can't say I blame them, but there will come a time when they're just too old to get away with it, and many will grasp at whatever straws come their way, out of desperation.

I applaud women who wait until they are older to get married. The ones I know who are single definitely have a specific type of guy they are looking for and there is not much room for making concessions or mistakes with them.

I'm a one cat lady.

Mine's on the right. She ran the one on the left out of his litter box.

Good observation.

I think the pendulum swings both ways. While I can appreciate wanting to experience life before settling down and starting a family, there's also something to be said for becoming an empty nester during one's 40s and still having a number of years left to enjoy a life of fun without having to sport a pair of Depends.

Also, struggling with your SO while trying to make it in life provides a lot of relationship growth and solidarity and is kind of romantic. Assuming you make it out alive, that is.

Why would such a time come? Keep going until you're ready for the nursing home.

agree, if I ever thought I was going to have kids, I almost wished I'd have knocked up my hs gf agree with the second part too, when I got married to the ex I'd pretty much already made it in my profession, she wasn't there while I was busting my arse to make it, she just sort of got comfortable and became a parasite
