I haven't used an ATM since 2005.
Of course, my wife gets me my allowance the few times she goes.
Neither of us use cash often. I spend in cash about $100/ year.

Same thing used to happen at the drive through line cashing checks or making deposits. Stupid people wouldn't have their check, or deposit slip written before they got in line. At least waiting at the ATM doesn't take that long.
No different than people who haven't decided what they want to eat before getting in line inside a fast food restaurant.

I use cards for most things, but I always use cash at farmers markets, beer vendors at concerts and sports events, and the like.
I hate to get in line behind a bunch of people paying for $6 beers with a damned card. Have some thought of others and bring cash.
