I-10, federal or state maintenance ??

It's all State Maintenance. The only things the Feds do is provide funding and the loads of red tape that come with it.

To be clear...... all this needs is a pressure washing?

It doesn’t *not* need a pressure washing.

The worst example I saw was I-10 over the Jourdan River near Diamond Head.

Isn’t that a newish bridge or upgraded bridge that was widened to 6 lanes about 20 or so years ago before Katrina?

Can’t be as bad as the death trap called the I-10 Pearl River bridge with no shoulders, a steep grade, and a guard rail from the 1970’s.

Plus it was made to open like a draw bridge to transport equipment to Stennis before it was converted to a fixed center span.

Did it have a steel grate on it? I remember hitting one of those in Mississippi, and it swerving the car a lot.

should already be a candidate for a widening to 6 lanes, larger inside and outside shoulders,

As long as the EPA is around, won’t happen.

Maintained by the state but paid for with federal funds.

I think so, I only started driving that direction in 2010. It would have been the early 2000’s before Katrina that both the Diamondhead bridge widening and the Pearl River I-10 bridge conversion was done.

On the other hand, the real oddity of the interstate highway system in Mississippi wasn’t last week’s discussion on the beach ramps of I-110 in Biloxi, but the fact that I-110 can actually open for tall boat traffic in the Bay and still has its metal grate for the lift able spans. I also love the fact that DOTD workers that operate a bridge that maybe opens just a few times a year get to park a state vehicle up there on the shoulder. Not sure if all the bridge tenders get the perks of a state issued vehicle or it is a shared vehicle so bridge tenders are not parking personal vehicles up there.

The perils (and stupidity) of believing what you see/read/hear on social media.

Dear Facebook

It's only going to get worse as AI gets more mainstream and legitimate news outlets shut down.

If they are remnants, they might be extras in case the bridge were to be struck by a boat.

The Causeway has an array of spare parts near the north end of the bridge, a few sections and some extra pilings to pile into fix the bridge if it were hit by a boat.
