In others, a shite load of good, hard working people elect to send their kids to private schools and thus could care less if the local public schools fail or if a bunch of idiots get elected to the board.
Great public schools make or break a suburb.

People act all crazy because I pay more in taxes, and my general reply is asking how much they pay for their kid's private school tuitions. Once they realize they are paying just as much for that as I am in taxes, they then understand why I don't mind paying them.

Yeah, I don't get it. You can find good food anywhere, and you can cook your own. Food options are one of the least things I care about when considering somewhere to live. I've found decent food everywhere I have been.

With the exception of a few restaurants in New Orleans, the food in South LA is highly overrated. There is plenty of great food elsewhere in the world that doesn’t revolve around Tony’s seasoning, or crawfish.

Left Baton Rouge 6 years ago and moved to Colorado. Best decision that I've ever made.

You just don't realize how screwed up Louisiana is until you leave.

Montana is a horrible place to live. Please don’t come.

Our son interviewed for a job in Camden Arkansas. I told him to take itif offered. Fiancé not so sure. I told them they could always come back. Why not try??

Camden is in the middle of nowhere and not close to anything. Not much going on in that part of southern Arkansas. Doubting fiancé is on to something.

Well, this isn't true at all. 100% realize it.

But eventually, all good places see issues because running from problems doesn't solve them.

Denver is a prime example

We also weren’t meant to live in an urban setting either.

Go west young man....to the land of the Alamo, and Tex-Mex. Pretty Senoritas and Texas bluebonnets adorning the highways. Texas has it all, and then some.

Some serious BBQ as well.

Nah, suburbs are for betas who can't hack it in rural settings or urban settings. It is truly the laziest way to exist and it's immediately noticeable because everyone is fat. Too much PF Chang's and hours spent commuting. Not enough time spent moving around whether in the woods or on the city streets. Humans weren't meant to exist that way.

Trade offs. In the south, you're not going to find a lot of opportunities to reasonably walk to the grocery store or work. Our cities are designed like that. Further, you're not going to find a lot of rural areas that aren't accompanied by drug use, poor schools, deemphasis on education and intellect in general, etc.

The best hope on the horizon is the untethering of white collar and sophisticated work from major cities, whereby small towns with character can attract the talent and money needed to make them livable. That exists elsewhere, but generally not in the Southeast.

But, the trouble will follow that, too. If the above happens, well-educated, well-heeled and well-bred folks will eventually make their mark, first for the better (great restaurants, better housing, better services) but ultimately for the worse (secularism/leftism/regulation). It's a modern day taming of the natives.

You mean Asheville, NC? Nice countryside- but it's Austin-East.

Really can't recommend moving to Nashville. Florida would be a much better choice.

Natural disasters I can handle, because they are everywhere. It is the man made kind that make me want to leave.
