Since I bought my first car, a 1970 hemi cuda, when I was 15 with money I made shrimping all summer in Texas, I started right then.

Age 12 when I became a man.
Delayed maturity?
When I was nine I began work in a sheet metal factory and within two weeks, I was running the floor. When I was eleven I was offered a job at the Tannery where I could work with leather, a dream I always had.

At 16, a couple months after my dad passed away. I had to get a job to take some of the pressure off of my mom. I started paying my portion of the car insurance, cell phone and spending money. I did my best not to ask for anything.
I did exactly the same thing. Started working at 15 and haven’t stopped yet.

I got my first car when I was 18, so...18.

18 but I was late to start driving. My kid is paying now, as soon as he started driving at 17 and working

Went halves to help purchase a car for my older kids over the past two years. I told them insurance and oil changes were on me the first year. After that they have to reimburse me each month.

24 when I finished grad school. Same with my cell phone bill.
My parents agreed to cover it while I was in school.

15. My dad gave us nice cars, but we always had to keep a summer job to pay the insurance.

When I bought my first car. 21 years old and the insurance was more than my car note.

24 when I finished grad school and started a real job.
My parents asked the agent how much they would save to drop me from the family coverage, and I paid them that amount for a year or so until I bought my first new car. At that point, I got my own solo policy.

Dad told me he would buy me a car if I got a part time job at 16, and I had to pay the insurance. He bought me a 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera for $2,500 in 1992.
