At least 40 people killed, hundreds injured after stampede at Israeli festival

Since the site was so densely populated, search and rescue authorities say they struggled to evacuate trapped people. The stampede was caused after some revellers slipped on steps, causing dozens more people to fall over, according to police sources.

38 dead is low compared to your typical Hajj crush count. I'm with a previous poster in that large crowds make me nervous for this reason. I've seen videos of crowd crushes and it looks like a terrible way to go.
Remember, if you find yourself in that situation, start climbing up as soon as possible.

Even before I read the article, I could tell those police barricades and the actions of the police contributed to these deaths. You can see it happening in that second video from the link.
Maybe some of the responsible cops will get shoved into a confined space for a few years.

I was at an LSU game during a lightning delay when they urged everybody to go down and shelter on the concourses. I did it exactly one time. Ever since I've taken my chances with the lightning.
